Re: Japan Box-Office: A New Year Begins! (2022)
True, was just wondering if it might've followed a similar weekend pattern to endgame which didn't increase on saturday given the numbers it posted for friday, but doesn't feel like it from PS. Might be wrong though.

It even managed the best hold in the Top 25 versus last Friday, which I consider a particularly impressive feat. Now it enters its first weekend coming off a regular Friday, so a nice increase is expected tomorrow that'll put it comfortably above ¥7 billion and 5 million admissions on its 16th day in release. It's on track to deliver a strong third weekend hold. That'll make it the second fastest film to reach ¥7 billion (and only the third film to do so after 3 weeks). And it'll tie Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle as the second fastest films to reach 5 million admissions.

Re: Japan Box-Office: A New Year Begins! (2022)
Assuming a ¥1.3-1.5 billion 3-Day (most likely range based on Friday), then a minimum total of ~¥5 billion (~$43-45 million) should be nearly locked up. I guess if you want a 99.999% locked figure, then ¥4.5 billion (~$39/40 million), but it really should get to at least ¥5 billion based on that.
But it should be able to approach ¥5.5-6 billion (~$48-52 million) if it, more or less (say, +/- 10%), matches Endgame over the full weekend

Might be wrong though. Hmm... You might have been onto something. Its Saturday pre-sales are surprisingly "low." Not low, really, 53,491 is good, but considering its Friday they're definitely low, and it's much less than Endgame (92,166) and even lower than Far From Home (62,630). It almost feels borderline impossibly low? It would suggest an opening weekend perhaps around ¥600-700 million. Let's see how the numbers come in later to see what happens. JJK0 is up nearly 40% over last Saturday's presales, which is amazing, but I wouldn't expect this to hold throughout the day. Last Saturday was deflated due to New Year, so reservations would have been weak as well. However, this is a good sign of either a minimal hold today/this weekend, or even an increase. This might end up being more of a race for #1 than expected if NWH's presales are correct (we'll know soon after admissions start coming in, because it'll be noticeably behind yesterday if so). NWH should certainly win, but it doesn't look like a runaway either.

Re: Japan Box-Office: A New Year Begins! (2022)
OD presales aren't released. (Well, besides for Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen since they were so big. Biggest Fridays/ODs by over a 2:1 margin over every other film. They've been the only two films that have had Friday presales released.)

I wasn't following NWH's data hourly yesterday, but do you happen to know what it started at in the 10AM update on Mimorin? Or the earliest possible number if you have it.

You'll see the admissions at the same point in time there versus yesterday and last week (for the holdovers). First update will be within the hour.

Re: Japan Box-Office: A New Year Begins! (2022)
~30% ahead of Far From Home, ~27% behind Endgame to begin Saturday. And it's down ~10% versus yesterday.
It's very early, of course, so let's see if these numbers remain consistent throughout the day, or if they shift in anyway.

Re: Japan Box-Office: No Way Home - Saturday Admission Track
A lot of fluctuating going on. Think we need to wait until at least 2pm to really judge it. Looks like it's on an upward trajectory now though, so we'll see.
I'll be up long enough for the 2pm update, so if someone is on to post the updates afterwards, it'd be appreciated. No big deal if not though. I can go back for them.

Re: Japan Box-Office: No Way Home - Saturday Admission Track
After a promising start looks like Spidermans are not catching up with Endgame numbers. Maybe we should compare this to Venom or Joker?

Jack Sparrow wrote: After a promising start looks like Spidermans are not catching up with Endgame numbers. Maybe we should compare this to Venom or Joker? Nah, it's much stronger than Joker and Venom, especially Venom. It's ahead of Far From Home by a comfortable amount too. It's only trailing Endgame as far as Marvel/DC films go.

Re: Japan Box-Office: No Way Home - Saturday Admission Track
It's been keeping pace/slightly ahead of Friday now, so at least it's going to avoid a decrease it seems and likely end up more or less where it was expected to (a slight increase, or worst-case, flat). Saturday presales were just unusually low and/or reported incorrectly. A Saturday decrease would have been very bizarre.
It is continuing to play a fair bit behind Endgame, though, so matching it over the weekend isn't looking likely. But that's fine. It's outperforming Far From Home by a comfortable margin, and settling only behind Endgame among the MCU is certainly satisfactory.
I'll be back with the final Saturday update in the morning, and an estimate.

Re: Japan Box-Office: No Way Home - Saturday Admission Track
Successive Spider-Man movie OW (Sat+Sun) ● Spider-Man ... 770 million yen ● Spider-Man 2 ... 1.08 billion yen ● Spider-Man 3 ... 1.21 billion yen
● The Amazing Spider-Man ... 580 million yen ● The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ... 420 million yen
● Spider-Man: Homecoming ... 450 million yen ● Spider-Man FFH ... 700 million yen
How could the first 3 Spiderman movies have so great legs?

x29,737 > x39,487 > x58,051 > x75,167 > x89,740 > 121,289 > 138,066 > 152,556 - Spider-Man: No Way Home
Was sleeping but scooped them off 5ch. It is ahead of yesterday, behind endgame but endgame had way worse evenings on sat than on friday so it's not out of the question that it comes pretty close/beats it. Wouldn't bet on it though.
