Not impossible, if it played poorly in rural locations. But I also seem to recall they underestimated Venom a bit, right?

I think History is repeating because like Detective Conan 2019 took 1st position in 2nd WK of Endgame. I think JJK will also win back the 2nd WK of NWH. Because Monday is showing a tough tag-war over No.1 Position like head - head battle between bulls.

Spiderman was always going to be frontloaded, it will all depend on how Jjk0 holds over the coming weekend. Would be wonderful if both movies had good legs going outside of holidays. I wonder when they will expand Jjk0 to 4D and other screens, are there any more giveaways planned for it? This coming weekend would have been right time to do so IMO.

They haven't announced any so far, though there's still time to announce it for this week if they want to but I'm guessing they're just going to wait for the 4d expansion. This week would've been a good time for it but I would expect it next week at the latest.

Very, very good holiday Monday. No Way Home is #1, but it was pretty close in admissions, maybe just ~10,000 or so separating it and JJK0. (We still need to see NWH's weekend actuals to be able to accurately estimate its dailies though.)

I'm estimating that Spider-Man earned ~¥340/350 million ($2.9/3.0 million) on ~230,000 admissions, so its 4-day may be around ¥1.75-1.80 billion (~$15-16 million) with ~1.15 million admissions. Or maybe slightly less if Sony's estimate is closer than ours.

Speaking of, since today is a holiday, actuals will be delayed until tomorrow. But they'll begin to roll out in about 12 hours from now.

18-Day Total: ~¥7,738,064,090 ($70.80 million) / 5,684,027 *est.*

Huge Monday (best hold in the Top 10, too), the last day of the full holiday season. Second biggest total (revenue and admissions) up to this point ever. Now we see how it performs post-holidays, with this upcoming week being pretty important in helping project where it may finish.

This should be plenty to get it above ¥10 billion (~$90 million) and ~7.5 million admissions, but it should be aiming for ¥11/12 billion (~$100-110 million) and ~8-9 million admissions, perhaps. A lot also depends on how far Toho wants to push it. They could do another giveaway event, they could expand it to 4DX/MX4D, etc., there are various methods of prolonging the run, but it'll naturally get to ¥10 billion, so we'll see. They don't need to for any particular reason, but if they want more money for their theaters and themselves, they may.

It's become a very strong favorite to win the 2022 Yearly Crown.

What are you expecting for Suzume no Tojimari? I'm guessing it will drop a bit from Shinkai's previous film, but I think it should still clear ¥10 billion quite easily.

I was expecting $17M-$18M for 4 days so I'm a little bit disappointed with $14,5M but it's ok. $50M should not be achieved but $40M still looks good for Spidey I guess ?

Sorry, missed this yesterday.

Umm... I think we put ¥10 billion as the goal, but I don't know about it being easy. I still find the release date ("Fall") to be pretty unusual. Someone (maybe you) said it may not be ready for July/August, which could certainly be the case, but why not "Winter" instead? Films can still do big numbers outside of the big months, it's becoming more common actually, but you probably should still aim for the big months if you can/expect especially high earnings.

Yeah, $40 million should be pretty doable. Since the MCU films are generally frontloaded, and behave similarly to one another during their runs, we can probably get an accurate projection after a week or two.

>Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted atop the box-office, delivering a new January Opening Weekend Record (by 43%). Playing in 896 screens, the third Holland/MCU Spider-Man release sold 584,000 admissions over the weekend frame, and 1,115,937 admissions over its first four-days of release for a total of ¥1,691,681,940 ($14.6 million). It also scored the second biggest opening weekend for a MCU film, just 6% behind 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Its opening weekend is also up 30% (36% for the 3-day) compared to Spider-Man: Far From Home.

I know, and even said prior to it opening, that people would likely be a bit disappointed almost regardless of its opening weekend, but guys... this is huge. Yes, it fell shy of Endgame, and got in that "so close!" territory where it can seem frustrating. But this is a huge opening that should get it around ¥4.5/5 billion (~$40-45 million) and 3 million+ admissions. This is an especially important opening weekend for Hollywood and Western releases in general too. We haven't seen all the data yet, but Hollywood/Imported films still look to be down 80% or more in 2021 compared to 2019 or earlier years. They saw little, or maybe no, recovery over 2020. I don't know if this single film is enough to say 2022 will be better, or at least allow them to approach normal levels again, but it's a big start.

>Jujutsu Kaisen 0 managed a third weekend increase, as if pretending it didn't lose most of its IMAX showings to a near ¥1 billion opener. Its three week total is the second highest of all-time, and also just the third film in history to earn over ¥7 billion as of its third weekend. After Monday, a holiday, it has grossed ¥7,714,084,650 ($ ) on 5,671,950 admissions. So, where it it headed now that the holidays are over? Still too early to pin it down, but we can almost certainly say above ¥10 billion (~$90 million) now, with perhaps a good shot at reaching ¥11/12 billion ($100/110 million) and 8/9 million admissions.

>99.9: Criminal Lawyer may be getting overshadowed, but its performance is definitely worth mentioning. A ¥3 billion total might be out of reach, but it should easily get above the ¥2.5 billion mark (likely ~$25 million). That may seem "meh", but it's a solid total that can be good enough for a spot in the Top 20 in any given year, and it's certainly notable for a Shochiku release.

>The Boss Baby: Family Business never really took advantage of being the sole family film over the holiday season, but at least it's going to exceed ¥1 billion ($9/10 million), I suppose. Still a pretty big underperformer.

>The Matrix Resurrections won't even get to ¥1.5 billion now. It's hard to outbomb The Hobbits, but this is a close second.

>Your Turn To Kill did what it needed to do over the last week of the holidays and will exceed ¥2 billion without much trouble. Again, not really a total to be excited over, but it's good, and the box-office can always use more of these types of performers.

>Arashi Anniversary Tour 5x20 FILM "Record of Memories" saw a big jump (might have gone back to Dolby Cinema, didn't check),

Thanks, Corpse. By the way, do you have an updated version of the Biggest Fridays list? You posted earlier that JJK 0 had the second biggest OD ever after Demon Slayer, and I believe NWH had the 4th biggest Hollywood OD of all-time (it and The Last Jedi both seem to be ¥462 million).
