Quite impressive that Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween's re-release achieve the biggest start of any re-release ever.

Also, Kanroji, the tweet you tried to share doesn't seem to exist and isn't showing up. Guessing it was deleted?

The system had problems calculating sales and bugged out basically. The blogger fixed it today.

It's named the first Slam Dunk, so maybe it's a retelling of the original story..?

If nothing is unveiled in the next week (maybe two), I might begin to have some concerns. I suppose there could be a chance they're behind schedule (some productions were delayed due to COVID in recent months--keeping people out of work for a few days/week--such as SAO which got delayed from Sept. to Oct.) and are hoping to meet the December release, but don't know with certainly yet to release anything.

To follow up on this... it's all good! It was just announced that presales for the movie will begin this weekend, and it'll also get an IMAX release as well. (Kinda of a bummer for Suzume though, since it will either have to share them, or more likely lose them almost entirely after just 3 weeks due to Slam Dunk and then Avatar 2).

Finally, while I'm here this evening: Work has been really busy lately, so I just haven't had an hour or two to dedicate to getting the weekend actuals and charts updated from this past week.

I'll probably just wait until next week to share them along with this upcoming weekend's actuals.

I talked at Annecy with one of the producer of Toei. She told me that there won't be a trailer for Slam Dunk, just a video, when the film is utterly finished, just before the release date. This is a request from Inoue himself.
Probably it'll be a clip and not a proper trailer.

When did sell started? Midnights are sellout but Fri-Sat-Sun seems poor though largely much shows are placed to drive in full potential...

I wonder how One Piece will be handled when WF is already not expected to top Weekend (at least that was always impossible from start.

May be we will be the only country where WAKANDA FOREVER won't win weekend box office on its global opening weekend

Today I think. Sales seem fine to me considering huge amount of shows will spread it and this won't be super huge OW but more of a leggy affair I'd say.

Thanks

A brief Update from MENA especially for Corpse

Spoiler: show
‘One Piece Film Red’ Smashes Saudi Arabia Box Office Records For Front Row, Dislodges ‘Black Adam’
One Piece Film Red rocketed to the top of the box office chart in Saudi Arabia over the weekend, achieving the biggest-ever opening for a Japanese anime in the territory and dislodging Black Adam from the top slot.

Middle East and North Africa distributor Front Row Filmed Entertainment, which holds all rights to the film in the region, said its opening weekend in Saudi Arabia, including previews, drew 61,000 admissions for a box office of $1.04m.

The weekend runs across Friday and Saturday in the territory so the figures are calculated from Wednesday previews through to end-Saturday.

Japanese anime has a strong following in Saudi Arabia and One Piece Film Red is the third feature in the genre to top the box office in the territory over the past 18 months.

This is an exceptional result, nonetheless. The opening admissions figure is 14% higher than that achieved by previous record holder Jujutsu Kaisen 0 at the beginning of 2022 and 50% more than Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train, which broke out in May 2021.

Front Row said the film had also achieved one of the biggest-ever opening days for a PG-12 movie in Saudia Arabia and the second biggest-ever opening day for an animated film behind Universal’s Minions: The Rise of Gru.

The distributor also noted, for context, that the opening day figures for One Piece Film Red were higher than Universal’s Jurassic World by 22% (also rated PG-12), 286% bigger than Sonic: The Hedgehog 2 and just 8% lower than Black Adam.

The film also opened strongly across the Middle East with over $400k grossed to date in the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Egyp

Apologies for the lack of posts/updates over the past week. Haven't had enough extended time to really do much around here due to end of year work load.

I'll have the actuals for last weekend and this past weekend posted later this evening though! As well as the updated 2022 charts.

Yes, I believe this is the giveaway that begins this upcoming Saturday (Nov. 12th).

JustLurking wrote:

Good to see. Now, it probably doesn't need ~20-40 shows a day since I think Weathering With You would have opened higher if there was more of an initial rush of Shinkai fans, but better to have an abundance of showings/seatings just in case. (Plus, the market is a bit weak right now, typical for early November, to allow theaters to go all-in on it.)

And yeah, Suzume is going to eclipse Wakanda Forever. May open 3-5x higher, and its 3-day opening alone could very well be higher than Wakanda Forever's entire total.

I actually think there's a chance Wakanda Forever only debuts in third place this upcoming weekend if the new One Piece giveaway gives it a similar percentage boost as last weekend's did. Japan is often alone, or one of very few countries, where major Hollywood films regularly fails to open at #1 though. Day-and-date releases, in particular, have a difficult time. Wakanda Forever is opening against one of the biggest and hyped films of the year, for example... This isn't much of an issue during the holidays, summer in particular when more people are going to theaters, but in the off-season like November, yeah, it's a stupid release date.

And the MCU (and American comic book movies in general, Spider-Man aside) that makes up so many of Hollywood's tentpoles these days just never expanded beyond a limited niche audience in the market. Hollywood was much more competitive when their focus was on fantasy and action-adventure films from ~15-20 years ago.
