FB3 should move ahead of NWH on Sunday/Monday (?)

NWH : ¥160,946,250 / ¥3,431,144,900 (4th Weekend)

Shin Chan 2022 growth was great! In case of %, Doraemon 2021 is highest, though I believe will roughly match Stand By Me 2 (¥2.78B). Sing 2 moving in ¥3.0B on Saturday

Well, Free unfortunately see drops.

Corpse, is there any explanation for deep drops for Stand By Me 2 from Stand By Me (¥8.38B)? Many says Demon Slayer impact but at the same time, it was expected to be a strong competitor (?)

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 Begins
I'm going with Monday-ish for when FB3 catches NWH. Saturday, and probably Sunday, too, will be lower than Friday (Sunday might be close to being on par since it's a discount day), so I think it'll still be a bit shy after Sunday. But Monday, and Tuesday at the very latest, looks good.

Regarding Stand By Me, Doraemon 2's performance, many things impacted it, really:

-Very rare, almost impossible, to follow-up on a breakout predecessor since those reach non-moviegoer crowds that are very hard to attract. This is a big reason Stand By Me 1 did so much more than a normal Doraemon film. Stand By Me 2 basically lost most/all that non-moviegoer crowd and reverted back to the normal (declining) Doraemon base. I believe this is the biggest contributor as it behaved more like a recent normal Doraemon film.

-Demon Slayer having universal appeal on a never before seen scale, which included young daycare and elementary-aged children.

-Rapidly Aging / Declining Population. Far fewer children in 2020 versus 2014. This is impacting most/all films that may appeal to families / children.

-COVID in general impacted younger-skewing films in 2020/2021.

Yeah, Golden Week underwhelmed last year since theaters closed in Tokyo, Osaka, and the six other prefectures the week before it began due to COVID. Scarlet Bullet was looking likely to outgross Blue Sapphire before that happened (still finished with a strong total given the circumstances). Bride of Halloween *should* do it this year and break the franchise record.

I'll have estimates for Sat and Sun here soon! Sunday was pretty crazy. Not exactly surprising since it was the 1st (national discount day), but it still produces a sort of "wow" during a major holiday period which amplifies the day even more.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 Begins
Quick note on Sunday: National discount days tend to take ~10-12% or so off the average ticket prices. This can be closer to 15% if a film is playing on many premium format screens. However, since this discount day occurs in the middle of one of the three major holiday periods, it's even stronger than normal in terms of ticket sales, so the avg. ticket price can be off a bit more than normal.

So, it's a little tricky to estimate it. Nothing (the holdovers, at least) should be too off, but there's a bit more room for error.

Conan 25 now tracking 12% ahead of Conan 23, although to be fair Conan 23 had not yet benefited from Showa Day so far in its run.

It's confirmed NWH falling on Monday. Let's go ¥5B!!!

$26.7M per Warner Bros. I don't know how to convert this value. Because is it on Current or Weekly seem problematic if Current then it went ahead of NWH

Being ahead of, of course, encouraging. But we should wait until the end of Golden Week (or May 8th, really), to see where they stand.

I think it has a pretty good chance of breaking the franchise record based on the numbers so far though. I remember DC23 got its 4DX/MX4D (maybe even IMAX, I forget) expansion late in its run which gave it a slight boost. Do you recall what weekend that was? (I can check, just figured I'd ask before searching.)

Yeah, it's hard to say since the number is so close to mine (which is awesome, since it suggests my estimates over the past 7 days have been quite close!).

FB3 will catch NWH tomorrow if it didn't on Sunday though, and may outgross it entirely as soon as next Sunday (May 8th).

Post Re: Japan Box Office: Biggest Third Weekends
Thanks, Cynosure. Select numbers have been released, which includes DC25's figures! Just a bit lower than I was estimated, likely due to Sunday coming in lower.

Note: Since Tuesday-Thursday are national holidays, we might not get full weekend actuals for 04/30-05/01 this week, or they'll be really delayed. The numbers released were only done so because Monday is the only regular day of the holiday period.

Anyway, huge third weekend for The Bride of Halloween. Pretty easily the biggest in the franchise.

% changes versus same day last week.

Sunday numbers adjusted down slightly to account for the slightly lower totals for the numbers released so far. And looking at Monday's huge gains over last Monday, we can expect some monster jumps versus last week (probably similar to Friday's increases) over the next three days (all national holidays)

It should do ¥300 million+ at least, I expect. Wednesday may be the biggest day of Golden Week this year, so anything less would be worrying as the day is set up to allow max potential for a single day (national holiday between two other national holidays that us also on a Toho Cinema Discount and Ladies' Day).

The only "problem" is that Wed/Thur are going to burn off a ton of demand for what will be a frontloaded film already, so it'll likely crash going into the weekend and especially afterward. Wed. alone will probably be bigger than its opening weekend.

Massive Tuesday. And we still have two more holidays to go! Wednesday will likely come in even higher.

All the totals for the holdovers have been released, so all the totals up to Sunday above are actuals. Just waiting on the openers to post the weekend actuals.

Indeed. Or 200,000+ at least. But do keep in mind... today is very likely to be bigger, much bigger, than its upcoming weekend. It won't be an indicator of future performance. I don't want anyone thinking today means it's going to gross ¥5 billion or something, or be disappointed because it becomes super-frontloaded (which it will be opening on today with another holiday tomorrow).

Today is pretty much as big of a day as you can get in the market in terms of max potential for an opening day (national holiday between two other national holidays, Toho Cinema Discount Day, and Ladies' Day).
