Surprisingly Robots did worse than i expected. I was thinking about $15m would be in store for it this friday. Well, i'm not unhappy with this result i have to admit as i'm of the opinion that CGI movies are highly overrated and most of the time don't deserve the box office they are getting. The same goes for the majority of comedies...

It looks like Passion won't pass ROTK. *phew* :)

Passion has a PTA of $73. That is horrible. This re-release now is pointless and it is playing in 954 theaters too!!!

I have to say....    =D> at The Passion's number, thank god it won't pass ROTK now.

I thought Robots would do a little over $10million, so not really surprised with the friday number. A little shocked at how hard M$B has dropped, maybe won't make it to $100 million now?? damn.

I stilll don't get how or why MDB dropped so hard. Weird...

And I agree... Passion's number has to be a type. If not, that surely will be funny

Passions numbers are low, no doubt, but this is a film that has been on DVD for 6 months already. I have no idea why they released it again. By the time Easter comes around, it might make another 4-5 mill...as for MDB, it dropped that much because it is not that good of a movie.

Million Dollar Baby is not feeling the oscar-effect, if that even exists anymore.

It exists if the movie is one the public wants to see, it can amplify it, but it can't create enthusiasm out of thin air.

You beat me.

Whenever anyone mentions the death of the oscar effect, I have to laugh. It'll be back next year.

M$B's lack of post oscar success is because it's core audience has abandoned it. There isn't even another adult drama competing for it's box office. Moviegoers in general just aren't interested in this film, the Best Picture win did nothing to change that.

HAHAHA! I can not describe how happy I am about these numbers. Not only did I totally nail that The Passion would be completely under the radar and not even make 1 million, but I was also completely right about Robots too. And Hostage didn't do half bad either! The audience I saw it with was almost entirely over 30, so I'm expecting a better weekend multiplier because of it. I think it'll pull just under 10 million, which is better then many were expecting.

Oh, and does anyone else find it REALLY weird that CONSTANTINE had the best hold of the weekend?

What's the point of releasing a supposedly family-friendly version of the Passion when it doesn't even have a pg13 rating? By calling it unrated it gives the impression to people that it's even bloodier.

holy shit
I predicted like 6m for Passion, Damn was i wrong, will be lucky to make $250k for the full weekend

Robots is a big dissappointment to me, with that theater count and its huge promotion $9.9m is not a great start.

It's like I've been telling you all: All the ads in the world can't get over the fact that robots aren't going to have half as much appeal to little kids as furry animals, and all the CGI in the world can't change that.

Name me a horror movie which crossed the century mark. There aren't many, are they? I'm not saying all horror is good, far from it, but horror movies are indies compared to comedies (both CGI and live action).

Yeah, I liked legos, but this movie appealed to mostly smaller kids, and honestly, yes, they do love animals. Hell, even as a 12 year old I'd easily rather play with my cat with a string then Legos.

At my local theater, they posted a sign about strict enforcement against non-adults for this movie. The sign strongly suggested that parents review the content of the film before considering taking their children. It definitely gave me an impression that this was supposed to be an NC-17 cut rather than a less violent one.

Well, robots,TPOTC and M$B totally killed my derby, this is going to be my worst derby score ever.
I thought TPOTC would do 3mill this weekend but now it will get about 300k or so.
I thought Robots was going to smash the march record but i was way off,and i thought m$b was going to perform better on weekends but it seems the oscars really didnt have an impact.

HAHAHAHA The Passion. I had a feeling it wouldn't do well but I was thinking $500,000- $1 million not well, not this. Though maybe it will get a boost on Sunday.

If they continue doing this every year they might eventually start losing money with all the advertising going into it and these results. I'D LOVE IT

:P

I wouldn't say so, the performance at my theater was impossibly low, average only 5 people per show (that's not even $200). I bet some other theaters had empty shows.
