If The RING II Weekend Gross is 40 Million or less???
Would you consider this to be a Disappointment in your eyes??? Considering all the fanboy buildup and astronomical predictions for this movie ranging anywhere I've seen between 60 Million to as high as 80 Million for the weekend, would you consider this to be a massive disappointment if it grosses less than 40 Million for the weekend??? I mean it is possible for this to backfire and do so you know?? Hell, even I'm willing to give the same accolades to Amityville Horror if it doesn't gross what I predicted, but come on.. Some of these predictions for The RING II are out of this world folks.. Give some thought to this Question??

Dont see how it can backfire, Grudge was able to get 39mil, I dont see how Ring Two cant make atleast 10mil more then that its opening week. Obviously wom wont kick in until the week after so it could easily drop big time in its 2nd week - but its first week is pretty much locked for 40+ imo. So sure it would be dissapointing seeing as this is a hyped sequel to a very succesful movie and all. Amityville on the other hand will backfire on you BKB  - but it'll still do great ( 70-80mil total hopefully ) probably didnt cost anymore then 20mil to make or so. This thread should be locked though we dont need another one.

The Ring has a huge fanbase. I'm sorry BKB, but there's no denying it. It became a part of pop culture. Everyone knows about it, pretty much. I don't know a person that doesn't. Even my parents know about the way you die in the movie, and they rarely ever watch movies. A 50 million weekend is a lock, and I wouldn't be shocked if it did around 60 to 70.

It should do well as a hit, but the previews I have seen dont look very good and like a complete rehash of the first movie. Hope I am wrong.

I think any opening above $30 million would be a clear success for this film. If it actually manages to get over $40 million, then I would call it a fantastic opening.
PEACE, Mike

If it doesn't make $40 million, it will be the most shocking box office opening weekend underperformance of all time.

Yes, it would definitely be a dissapointment. I'll tell ya what though B. I know you'll have all those signature things going with The Amityville Horror, but I'll challenge ya right now. On March 20th when the weekend estimates for The Ring Two are out, if it's below 40 million I'll put whatever you want in my signature until April 15th. Anything, you name it. I'll tell ya what, if it makes 40-45 million, neither of us have to do anything. But if it makes over 45 million, you'll put whatever I want in your signature up until April 15th when The Amityville Horror opens and you have all those other signature things to deal with. Sound fair?

Yes, if it even opens to 30 million it will make a large profit, but the fact remains that it can, should, and will do over twice that.

Indeed. The Grudge made close to 40 million for Christ's sake, The Ring 2 WILL make at least 45 million.

I see it opening around 50 million dollars but I can also see it dropping huge the following week around at least 60% or more. It will probably end up having around Ocean's 12 numbers.

I don't even have to think about the dissapointment if it opened to less than $40 million, because it won't.
I can guarantee it.

It should definately open to $40 million, but above $50 million would be extraordinary. I really doubt it will open with more then $49-$53 million.

It would still be profitable, but yeah, it would be a huge dissapointment.
However, it's entirely impossible. In fact, I would venture to say anything under 50m, maybe even 60m is impossible.

I'm not saying it'll gross that much. I'm saying i wont be disappointed by that. Its april and as good as it may look to people, i still maintain that this is an unneeded sequel and carries the possibility of being a complete rehash of the old one. Remember that the Ring had something going for it .. a pretty cool thing which will now be lost on us as we've already been introduced to it. It could pull a Jason Bourne or an Ocean's 11. can go both ways.
Either way, its outgrossing Amityville

It would shock me if it didnt pass 40mill considering the grudge almost did that.
I expect the biggest opening for a horror film to date, whats the biggest? and dont say signs because that really isnt horror.

Hannibal's $58 million is the largest horror opening weekend to date.
