Wow. So, every black along with some whites would need to see Diary in order to sell out those two showtimes on Friday.

Don't you want to get out of a place where seeing an African-American or an Asian is about as rare as seeing someone browse WOKJ on a public computer?

I'm right dab in the middle of these two places:
http://silverspringmd.usl.myareaguide.com/census.html
and http://bethesdamd.usl.myareaguide.com/census.html

Bethesda is more diverse than it seems, though. That's where my high school is and I think we're around 15% African American and 15% Hispanic.

At the Lloyd Center 18, Be Cool and The Pacifier both get two screens, while Ong-Bak (FINALLY!) and The Jacket each get one. Million Dollar Baby is also taking Are We There Yet's screen in the evening, but that aside, everything but Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2 screens) is one one screen or sharing a show

Saw Be Cool last night at a preview, so it was sold out and the only trailer was Beauty Shop (Which has been getting GREAT reactions...)

As for the movie, I really can't understand all the terrible reviews. It wasn't a classic, but it was consistently entertaining and the script and acting managed to make up for the subpar directing skills of F. Gary Gray (who seemed to be asleep at the wheel despite having made some good movies in the past). Cedric the Entertainer, Vince Vaughn, and of all people THE ROCK managed to be hillarious. I've liked him since The Rundown, but he would've stole the show if the rest of the characters weren't great too. John Travolta did just what was asked of him by playing it laid back and cool, though his chemistry with Uma wasn't all that great. Christina Millian was better then Thurman in my mind easy. That aside, it went on awhile but I was always entertained, and laughed out loud at several parts (like Cedric the Entertainer's monologue about black people in society and racism, FANTASTIC stuff). Overall, I'd give it a strong B+.

HSX had a couple of reports so far today, both of which are about early matinee shows(around 12:00) for Be Cool. Both were in 300-seat screen, and one reports 10% full and the other 25%. Libs also mentioned the theater near her has the 7:00PM shows for both Be Cool and The Pacifier sold out.

Minor correction, The Pacifier sold out a 6:45 but Be Cool sold out an 8:30 and 10:30, I believe.

Among holdovers, Diary of a Mad Black Women, well it did bad last weekend, but it did even worse this weekend, with the biggest show attracting 60 people. Cursed and Man of the House got completly crushed. Overall, it start off slow, until 8:00, then we did brisk business.

Thanks, Scott! It seems based on number of screens and size of theatres that BCOOL did better than PACIF on Friday...I figure it will even out by Sunday since BCOOL seems like it might be frontloaded.

I find that interesting due to the fact we sold out (not to mention basically the entire city of Atlanta) all of last weekend, and last night we sold out our late 7 and both the 9 and the 10 show...also heard that other theatres near us sold out as well...

On another note Pacifier did far better than Be Cool last night, dont get me wrong Be Cool did good but nothing compared to Pacifier

The Diary cast was on Oprah yesterday. She couldn't stop singing it's praises.

She's one of the most powerful people in entertainment. I wonder how this weekend will pan out.
