And I can't see a movie about World War II being a big hit among the kiddies.

Goofy CGI cartoons baby! Goofy CGI cartoons= cha ching. They are a much better investment than horror films. No CGI kid movies have bombed so far and even the ones with creeeepy looking kids that make Michael Jackson drool made over 160 million dollars

Yeah, but Robots will have only been out for a month, and The Polar Express had a HUGE ad campaign and tie in marketing, was based on a famous book, had one of the biggest stars of modern history in it, amazing WOM, and was the only Christmas movie that season that didn't get under 10% on RT. And it still bombed opening weekend. And Valiant doesn't even have any domestic posters, trailers, not even a teaser trailer! I doubt it'll open by April 15th, and if it does, it'll be a very muted release. I mean, this IS a British movie, how many British imports (especially ones aimed at kids) do that well?

The best comparison would be Chicken Run which was financed in Australia. Valiant could follow the same path since its part of a foriegn animation film

Vin Deisel is hit or miss, The Pacifier will be a hit. It just looks good, Vin Deisel is trying to become the new Ahhnold and he might just do it. The Pacifier will open in the mid 30s and be #1 for two weekends me thinks. Sorta like Bringing Down The House back in 2003.

Believe me, I'm actually something of a Vin Diesel fan but this looks AWFUL. However, I haven't heard such great crowd responses in ages, people are seriously eating this up, kids and adults.

However, I do think there is a chance that Be Cool will win against The Pacifier. The cast is huge and it looks like tons of fun. At minimum I see 20 million for me, with an outside chance for even more, which could in theory let it beat The Pacifier if people are smart.

Glad to see the majority think CURSED will open at number 1 come Febuary 25th Weekend.

CURSED would need to open to more than $20,000,000 to take the number 1 spot. And i'm not sure if it's possible, i can't make my mind up on this one.

On one hand:

The cast is full of big names: Christina Ricci, Joshua Jackson, Mya, Skeet Ulrich, Omar Epps, Shannon Elizabeth amoung others.

It's from the makers of SCREAM. Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven.

The trailer looks very typical Slasher movie, like SCREAM, which we havent seen in a while.

Looks to be shot in the same way as SCREAM, judging by the trailer, soundtrack etc.

Other hand

Release date was moved around alot.

Had to be edited from R to PG-13.

Website went online 3 weeks before release.

Poster and Trailer were very close to the release.

Reshoots had to take place, resulting in Bad Buzz.

With all of this into consideration, i'm thinking a $16,000,000 opening is more reachable if it gets the 3,000 theatres it's estimated. A $5.3K pta.

Can anyone from the US tell me if there are any TV SPOTS being shown? or any media attention whatsoever?

No way. Chicken Run had Mel Gibson's voice, arguably the best reviews of any non-artsy movie of it's year (97% on RT!) and a 45 million ad budget. And it opened in the middle of the summer, which let it make 106 million after a soft 17 million opening weekend. Oh yeah, and it got all those damn cross promotions with McDonalds. Even if Valiant opened that high (which is possible), it'll have terrible weekdays and get squashed two weeks later by Disney's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

But its too bad that the only trailer for AH is attached to a horror movie no one went to see. I saw Valiant's trailer online and hopefully it will be attached to Robots since it presented itself as being from the creators of Shrek and Shrek 2 which would draw parents and kids in

I rekon AMITYVILLE will be attached to MISS CONGENIALITY 2 and BE COOL.

Both are MGM movies, out before AMITYVILLE is released.

Yes damn you people for unintentionally pressuring me to get out my intial prediction that it would bomb but I blame it more so on the success of Boogeyman. Had Boogeyman not made more than 15 million that week, I would of stuck with my intitial prediction that it would do Elektra's number.

why won't it? Historical epics are far from hot right now...while horror is the new 'it' genre.

Hope to god your right....mind you, last year KING ARTHUR and ALEXANDER both bombed.

We can always hope that the american public will come to their senses and see HOUSE OF WAX! The trailer for that is getting better reactions, and more hype than Kingdom ever has.

ANyway, VAN HELSING and X2 opened well on this date because they had HYPE.

I hadn't heard of KINGDOM til about 2 weeks ago.

Ah well, we'll need to see.

I see that the most of you think that SW EP3 will only have one weekend and than be replaced by Madagascar.
Do you really think SW will be that weak. After the "mediocre" start of Robots can Madagascar be strong enough?????
I doubt.
