GUCCI repeats as No. 1...

Pre-Sales for Spidey are excellent - should be the 2nd biggest opening of the year behind 007...

And the states and the federal government are in discussions today, to ease one of the covid restrictions which is killing box office right now...

Opening day around 150,000 admissions ($1.75m) - second biggest opening day of the 2020s behind 007...

1m was based on my assumption that opening day is 200k, so 750k-900k is more likely now...

My 3.8m prediction still stands as Matrix is the only major movie opening for the holiday season... (all the other big movies moved because of Covid)

Expect that will be a trend globally. Politically could be too damaging to go too strong on lockdowns before Christmas since so many people missed out last year with families. Feel like New Years will be a different story though.

So Spidey delivers the best opening since the original trilogy, more or less doubles the openings of the ones that followed...

And I just realised I joined KJ 16 years and 6 days ago...

Doesn't it seem 16-years ago? lilmac mentioned I joined 15 years ago earlier this year (sorry I didn't reply!) and it definitely doesn't feel like it.

Looks like Germany won't go into lockdown this year...

Next meeting of chancellor and governors will be January 7th (if the situation doesn't explode)...

So it looks like Spidey and Matrix (the only Xmas releases) have a chance to stay in theaters for the next two weeks...

So SPIDER-MAN is looking like a 525k second weekend which would be superb considering the calendar (many theaters are closed today or have limited showtimes and Christmas day is also very slow).
That would translate into 1.85m cume by Sunday, thus prolonging the rule that every MCU sequel has more admissions than the predecessor (FFH had 1.77m)...

MATRIX is looking to open with around 190k (including previews)...

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is the second state (out of 16) after Saxony to close movie theaters. Those two states amount to 6.8 % of Germany's population...

Oh ok, but there will be no negative impact from the fact that at the same time as the weekend there is New Years Eve and New Years Day ?

Of course there will be a negative impact, but the impact will be not as severe as through christmas...

So today Spidey will beat the admissions total of the original AVENGERS (2012), thus becoming the 5th biggest MCU title behind ENDGAME, INFINITY WAR, GOTG VOL. 2 and AGE OF ULTRON...

All movies in the Top 20 except MATRIX gained ground compared to last weekend...

Upping my SPIDEY total forecast to 3.8m admissions (if no government restrictions interfere) with a 33 % chance of hitting 4m...

The calendar made this possible:

Spidey:
360,134 admissions 2nd weekend
390,857 admissions 3rd weekend
360,000 admissions 4th weekend (estimate)

Total should be 3.2m Sunday

Unfortunately, this was the last weekend of holidays and vacations...
