Here is what is happening at my theater.

White Noise will open on two screens.
Million Dollar Baby will also get two screens.
The Assassination of Nixon also opens here, on one screen.
And, get this, Birth and Kinsey are both getting second chances as they get reissues on one screen each. Shocking isn't it.

Look like an interesting weekend for Oscar hopefuls, lets see how well we do on them. I am working night shift Friday, so stay tuned.

This is going to come off as really rude when I don't intend it to, but why does everyone report what they're going to see? Why not just write the report when you get back?

Million $Baby
Century 25 in Union City
1:00pm 150seater about 65% full

The Movie
No special effects just a film with pure real emotion and great story telling with some brilliant performances by the main 3 ( Clint, Hillary, Morgan ). Clint is over 70 years old and he is still one of the best in Hollywood, hats off to the man. Its not just a movie about boxing its a movie about people and their struggle with life and pain. I dont wanna give away anything important about the movie because it might ruin the experience, but its a very touching movie, it'll make you want to live life to the fullest and accomplish your dream, whatever that might be.

Grade - A+

I'm seeing quite a few sold out shows for White Noise. It looks like it may be able to net a solid $15-17M for the weekend.

SEEN IT TONIGHT

CROWD REPORT

Film: WHITE NOISE
TIME: 9:45PM
AUDIENCE: SOLD OUT, 400 SEATER

TRAILERS:
HIDE AND SEEK - whispering. interest.
ELEKTRA - no reaction
ASAULT ON PRESINCT 13- no reaction

Report:
Went to see WHITE NOISE tonight. To a sold out audience here in the UK, SCOTLAND. Was very very surprised by this movie. The marketing was heavy, there was alot of it, but it didn't give too much away. Which worked in the movie's advantage. Alot of the storyline is not clear in the trailers and plot summaries. Creepy and edgy from start to finish. Ring like chills and eye watering creeps. The audience were right into it, with a couple of screams and alot of jumps. This is seriously one of the best supernatural like movies i have seen in a long while. Thouroughly enjoyable, and very spine chilling.

8/10.

CROWD REPORT CAN BE SEEN IN BKB's thread in other forum:

Went to a sold out showing down here in SAn Diego...

Regal Cinemas 18

Crowd Report

Audience: SOLD OUT.(one of those big theaters) Consisted mostly of teens, college students and the occasional 50 year old+

Time: 4:25

Audience Reaction:
The audience was not impressed. You could tell with the mass amount of off topic whispering and fidgeting you could hear through out the theater when a movie sucks. I saw a couple in the front row sleeping, only to be awaken by the occasional teenage girl scream. The audience seemed bored, but interested when a couple of those "suprising" parts came. An overwhelming "WHAT! THAT SUCKS" came when the "big ending" came. I could tell that they were disappointed by the ending, which is maybe why I think the audience didn't like it.

Judging by audience reaction, I think it would have gotten a C-

Personal Reaction:
Sadly, I must say, this film had the PERFECT premise, backed by a PERFECT ad campaign, only to be ruined by a sometimes laughable, unbelievable, on-going, storyline that tries to pull out the stupidest of scares. The ending was horrible and there were no answers to any questions asked through out the whole film. The ending drew together points in the film that made no sense, and failed horribly at trying to make the ending dark but joyful(i.e. The Sixth Sense showing Bruce Willis accepting that he is dead, or In the Ring where Naomi Watts and her son accept that the girl can't be stopped, but are saved). In my opinion, the film is at best, a mediocre thriller, taking a cue from other mediocre thillers like Darkness Falls or Suspect Zero. Also, I think this review is influenced by the lack of interest from the audience. I feel that Micheal Keaton was a horrible mistake on the casting part, he really didn't "bring it", and looked more bored then sympathetic. The movie tries too hard to be too serious.....making the film boring, dull and dumb.

Im sorry, I give this film a D.

White Noise
AMC OakView 24 - 7:40 p.m.
500-Seat Theater SOLD OUT

Trailers -

Assault on Precinct 13 (no reaction)
The Amityville Horror (some ooh's)
The Pacifier (no reaction)
The Ring Two (teaser  - applause)

Film -

An intriguing mystery with quite a few uneasy moments and scares. Leagues better than The Grudge. The ending is admittedly stupid and over-the-top, but everything leading up to it is worth the $8 ticket price. Audience applauded as the credits rolled.

White Noise

AMC Marple 10
12:20am, 400 Seater, Sold Out (midnight shows never sell out during the school year  )

Trailers
The Amityville Horror (whispering)
Assault of Precinct 13 (no reaction)
The Interpreter (no reaction)
The Ring Two (clapping)
Boogeyman (laughs)

Movie
I don't have a grade for it. I need to sleep on it, I guess. The movie has an excellent premise, but I'm not sure where they went with it in the last 20 minutes. I'm completely lost, but up to the last 20 minutes, the film is damn entertaining and very fun. I'll have a grade later.

Saw White Noise at 7:25 PM Tigard Cinemas 11. Theater was about 80% full. Trailers were:

The Interpreter (It looks good, but why do I get a feeling the trailer's showed us the entire movie?)
Boogeyman (The theater was laughing. Sony really dropped the ball on this one, just look at how shit scary the international trailer was)
Alone in the Dark (I hate to say this, but I honestly would want to see it in a serious way if it wasn't directed by Uwe Boll)
Assault on Precinct 13 (Looks great, not much of a reaction though)
Million Dollar Baby (I can tell some people knew what it was. Kind of different trailer, edited in tons of critical praise and the Golden Globe nominations)

No Ring Two trailer! Damn! >_<
No are-why-a-en, you were not too harsh. At all. White Noise is an absolutely awful movie in an endless amount of ways. Aside from two good, albeit predictable, jump scares, it's completely empty, and the ending is not only ridiculously bad, confusing and over-the-top, it tries to be more then it is. Instead of coming off as enlightening, it comes off as cheesy and obsequious. And honestly, why would this movie, that's essentially a big advertiesement for EVP, suggest that anyone who researches it will be attacked by ghosts that look alarmingly similar to Bat Boy from The Weekly World News. Here is my theater report.

The Assasination of Richard Nixon sold only 20 tickets throughout it's four shows. Birth sold 30 tickets, and Kinsey did 60 tickets. Not very good for all three. Now back to the regular reports.

Million Dollar Baby.
12:15 (250 seater) - 28% full.
1:15 (600 seater) - 8% full.
3:30 (250 seater) - 29% full.
4:25 (600 seater) - 16% full.
6:45 (250 seater) - 52% full.
7:45 (600 seater) - 18% full.
10:00 (250 seater) - 20% full.
11:00 (400 seater) - 6% full.
(For an Art movie, this is pretty decent. I 10,000 per screen average is still possible).

White Noise.
12:40 (400 seater) - 12% full.
1:20 (400 seater) - 16% full.
3:20 (400 seater) - 19% full.
4:05 (400 seater) - 28% full.
5:55 (400 seater) - 63% full.
6:40 (400 seater) - Sold Out.
8:30 (400 seater) - Sold Out.
9:20 (600 seater) - Sold Out.
11:15 (600 seater) - Sold Out.
12:00 (600 seater) - Sold Out.
1:15 (300 seater) - Sold Out.
 What a great performance. This could be number one.

Overall, it is much better than we anticipated, but not robust, mostly because Million Dollar Baby and White Noise took up almost half the business. Though this is excellent for a January.

Why are people so stupid in wasting their hard earned money on garbage? Movie critics are paid for a reason, and while sometimes they are putting their own personal tastes/opinions into the mix and are extremely jaded, there is a reason they are so critical. So that people who don't have the money to spend on movies (which are expensive...here in NY, they just went up to $10.50 for alls hows!)...save it for the movies worth seeing.

Million Dollar Baby is worth seeing...White Noise isn't. It's a DVD rental at best. (Yeah, it's a good premise, but a bad movie, marketed similarly to horror movies that have done well.)

I just shake my head when I see reports like that one, because it's a testament to the future of moviegoers (and our natioin) if teens are so easily swayed/fooled by advertising.

Except I'm not a teenager. And I enjoy a well-told horror movie. Care to lump me into any other groups, chief?
