We're beginning to agree on more and more films.
The trailer is stunningly bad. Slow-paced, cliche-ridden, highly unoriginal and unmotivated, with kitchy music and a hairy Orlando Bloom who is absolutely not believable as a tough knight.
This film will be crawling on its knees towards anything even close to The Last Samurai's gross, which I highly doubt it will come close to.
On top of that, it apparently casts the Christian side on a negative light. That is a NO-NO. You cannot have a film based on the Crusades with that kind of message! The Christians will be put off, and so you lose your major audience. The people who don't care for epics will avoid it like the bubonic plague anyways, and those who will (worngly) think it's pro-Christian propaganda, as well as liberal-minded audiences, will not give it a second thought.

I think it will do decent, compared to recent sword and sandal epics. Perhaps similar to Troy. Similar release date, target audience, genre, even one of the same stars.
Opening: $40 million
Total: $135 million

I agree
Stunningly bad is almost being too kind

Bad trailer. Looks very boring and uninteresting. In terms of box office, I see it doing just a little more than King Arthur, because of it's good release date and Orlando Bloom, which should bring in some females.

Yeah this looks like another snoozefest. Its probably anti-Christian too so it will disapoint all the more.
Id say $27m opening and $65m total.

It was a vest. They made him wear a vest of hair because he wasn't manly enough to play the part.
Urgh. Maybe, if you're lucky, some of those entertainment shows can make a big deal out of it and show you that vest come May.

Meh I loved the trailer
Then again I love my epic war movie.
I see a troy like gross following its domestic and worldwide pattern.
Ill be seeing it I am sure. Hell if I went and saw the garbage that was King Arthur, I can go give any epic a shot.

I loved Troy. I liked King Arthur. But, if you were to watch Alexander, you would lose all faith in the epic-war movies, which are one of my favorite types of movies to watch.

I think people are tired of these sword epics already, and also the trailer looks horrible.
I say 100mill at the most.
How much did this film cost?

Right now, it looks it will do much better than Alexander, but it won't reach the status of Gladiator. $100m domestic looks about right to me...

Why people can get tired of epics but never of comedies, action movies or CGI cartoons? Meh, the masses like their shallow entertainment...

It has a great release date, I say about a 46m opening followed by large drops and I think it will finish about 113-120m

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is going to open on May 6th as well, so the two films are going head to head. In addition, you have Monster-in-Law, which will vie for the female audience as well.
So what great release date are you talking about sako? SW3 will be less than 2 weeks away from it, and then you have Longest Yard and Madagascar.
I'm positive Fox will chicken out and move this to a week ahead, to Troy's spot.

What I meant by great release date is that The Actual date, the beginning of the Movie Summer season. But I didn't know it had so much competetion on that date. I don't think Fox will change their date because of Hitchhicker's.
I guess I should change my prediction a bit
35+m opening
100-110m finish.

The trailer is okay, but Troy's was much better. Troy had so much more going for it and yet it barely made $133 million domestically. I think this one will struggle to reach $100 million, topping out a around $105 million. There are just too many "epics" being made nowadays.
Also, Ridley Scott steals from his own movie. Look at the wheat fields in the Kingdom of Heaven trailer and remember Gladiator...yeah...

Blah.
However, due to May, I'm guessing a $30 million opening and a total of maybe $70-75 million.

It's the first weekend of May. It WILL open higher than $30 million.

Guys, I really think people are short selling this. Yes, you can't predict 100 million for every epic. But you also can't predict every one will bomb. Yes, the trailer itself isn't great, but I think it's going to leave some people curious. Orlando Bloom IS a much bigger star then Colin Farrell ever was, and that had a far worse opening weekend. Sure, you can argue it looks like there's a lot of competition, but I guarntee on my life that a lot of movies will shuffle around. It's still months away. If you had looked at the 2004 summer calendar back in November, it looked like Spider-Man 2 was going to open May 7th, and that Van Helsing, and Day After Tomorrow were all going to fight over Memorial Day weekend. It looked like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was going head to head with Riddick, Blade toe to toe with AVP, and that The Village would open Labor Day weekend to mimic the success of The Sixth Sense. What we got was a totally different summer. Granted, we're in a month and a half later, but trust me, a lot changes in a summer calendar between then, and not all these tentpoles will face each other.
And guys, this is Ridley Scott. He's a much better film maker then Antoine Fuqua or Wolfgang Peterson, and his movies are non as batshit crazy as Oliver Stone's. He's a master at making stunningly emotional films, and I don't think this'll be any different. It may open slightly lower then it should because of epic exhaustion, but I think the legs will be very good. 42/155

Totally agree moviedude.
I think this is being totally sold short. I see about 35-45 opening and great legs to a tune of about 160.

May 6 opening movies (Wide release)
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
- Kingdom of Heaven
- Monster-in-Law
Both The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Monster-in-Law would be PG-13 [crowd-pleasers], but Kingdom of Heaven would be a R-rated epic movie.
For US box office potential, I think that Kingdom of Heaven would be the weakest of three movies. Many Americans prefer PG-13 [crowd-pleasers] to R rated epic movie. (I think that The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
would be the No.1 movie on that weekend.)
For oversea box office potential, , I think that Kingdom of Heaven would be the strongest of three movies.
