This is how you make a really PROFITABLE movie...
Tarnation
Studio: Wellspring Media
Director: Jonathan Caouette
Cast: Jonathan Caouette, Michael Cox, Adolph Davis, Rosemary Davis, Renee Leblanc, David Sanin Paz
Genre: Documentary
Plot Summary: "Tarnation" is as fiercely personal a self-portrait as can be recalled. Having documented his life since the age of eleven, Jonathan Caouette weaves a psychedelic whirlwind of snapshots, Super-8 movies, answering machine messages, video diaries, early short films, snippets of '80s pop culture and dramatic reenactments to create an epic portrait of an American family torn apart by dysfunction and reunited through the power of love. The film begins with 31-year-old Caouette learning of his mother's lithium overdose and his trip home to aid in her recovery. Slipping back into the archives of his youth, we watch Caouette grow up on camera, seeking escape from family trauma through musical theater, grade-B horror flicks and the forging of his identity through popular culture.
BUDGET:
$220 (yes, Two hunderd twenty dollars) (as stated by IMDB and BOM)
BOX-OFFICE gross so far:
$518,967
PROFIT:
235,894% (box-office gross in relation to the budget)
Profits in comparison (domestic grosses only):
The Blair With Project - 234,232%
Super Size Me - 17,748%
My Big Fat Greek Wedding - $4,829%
____________________________________________________________________________
This must be one of the most-profitable if not THE most profitable film ever made. Heck, each weekend it makes more than its production budget. Seriously, even I could afford a $220 movie.

It may not be profitable. Depand on how much Wellspring Media paid to acquire "Tarnation".
For example , "Tadpole" is a $150,000 production that grossed $3.2 million worldwide. But Miramax paid $5 million to acquire this movie, so it is a bomb.

But it's not Miramax or any big or famous studio that acquired the right this time around.

You are right, Dr. Lecter.
Wellspring acquired this movie by providing completion financing.

Interesting film creation here, essentially the man has created his own investment vehicle by documenting his life so obsessively. Who wouldn't want to watch the filmed life of someone regardless of how "unimportant" their particular life was?
