Post subject: | Upcoming Comic Book Adaptations |
Since the release of X-Men back in 2000 it was clear that comic book adaptations is the newest moneymaking trend in Hollywood. But it was Spider-Man that estabilished this trend. It broke all records and opened with unbeatable $114.844 million from 3615 theatres back in 2002 becoming the champion of the year and beating out Star Wars: EPISODE II - Attack of the Clones for that title. Since then, we have witnessed a wave of comic book adaptations coming our way and it doesn't seem to stop. Some are successful, some are not so, but overall comic book adaptations seem like one of the surest investments in Hollywood. Spider-Man 2 came out this year to even better reviews than its predecessor and once again managed to break records and gross $370+ million. Right now, the next big comic-book adaptations to look forward to are Blade: Trinity and the revamp of the Batman franchise, Batman Begins. But of course there are many more in planning. This thread is for predicting and discussing the upcoming comic-book adaptations, both from Marvel and DC and some others. Here is the shedule for upcoming comic book adaptations: 2004: Blade: Trinity - December 8th 2005: Elektra - January 14th Batman Begins - June 17th Fantastic Four - July 1st 2006: X-Men 3 - May 5th The Punisher 2 - Summer 2006 Hellboy 2 - Summer 2006 Superman - Summer 2006 Ghost Rider - TBA 2006 Iron Man - TBA 2006 2007: Spider-Man 3 - May 7th Hulk 2 - Summer 2007 Wolverine - Summer 2007 I will post my predictions soon. ![]() |

Blade: Trinity has disappointed and Elektra has bombed. Comic Adaptations haven't been "hot" since Catwoman. |

I wonder if this genre is beginning to fade. Either that or there really hasn't been a quality film since Spider-Man II. |

Catwoman - 9% Blade: Trinity - 27% Elektra - 7% Even though the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes suggest Blade: Trinity was bad I enjoyed it! |

If it gets made, I expect it to completely bomb. An opening of less then $30 million and a final total of less then $100 million. Even good WOM will not help it. |

That's some 'complete bomb'. Or by 'less than $30m and $100m+' you were thinking of $5m and $30m, then I would agree. And why not jb? It was an excellent movie after all. ![]() If we can be bombarded by Elektra, White Noise and countless lousy sequels, we can welcome this one. |

Maybe with a great action director it could make it, but that needs to be seen. As for Elektra, there is a lesson to be learned here by the studios before jumping to greenlight anything and everything, even with a talented, delightful and beautiful actress like Garner. White Noise cost 25 mil to make. add another 25 mil. cost for marketing/prints, it will be a very profitable movie. BTW it is a decent movie. |

urgh, too many comic book movies. Batman will do good, Fantastic Four will bomb. I hope they can cut it down to atleast 3 in 2006, or else good characters like Iron Man arent gonna get the success they deserve. X3, Superman, and Ghost Ride should be the only ones coming out next year, IMO. |

Maybe movie going audiences aren't as dumb as people set them as - they won't accept bad comic book movies. The genres definately slipping and its been over-done. |
