It is almost comical the degree to which the film, with its Bressonian austerity, slow-burn pacing, and densely of-the-period dialogue, will clash with the Friday-night cell-phone crowd. Cue uproarious laughter at serious scenes. Cue the glow of screens throughout the auditorium. Cue groans and obscenities when the credits start to roll.
