That could be it. The version I saw today is not scary or very convincing. Everybody was pissed off at the ending.

 Many people, who have seen the R-rated version, love the ending.......
It seems like that several PG-13 edits totally destroy the movie.....
If DARKNESS become a box office flop in US, I'll not be unhappy........
I am afraid that CURSED may become another crap because of several PG-13 edits from Dimension/Miramax....

I'm thinking I'll go to see it next week sometime. Possibly Tuesday or Wednesday.

I won't see it in US theaters..........
But I will wait for R rated (or unrated) version DVD......
At least R rated varsion has the completely ending.......
However, PG-13 version just ends without ANYTHING beign resolved............. (According to a person who has seen the movie.......)

I don't remember which version I saw...
Someone said there are bleeding walls in R version, and I don't recall that. Though, long time ago I saw it...maybe my memory just fails me.
If anyone knows the differences in both versions, please post them. :-)

Dimension/Miramax PG-13 strategy works.........
The PG-13 crappier version gets better-than expected $3.1 million on Saturday......

So am I.......
Sadly, they will probably get money for that move........
PS: Miramax/Dimension only paid $4 million for domestic rights and for the United Kingdom, Australia......... So DARKNESS will be a very profitable acquisition for Miramax/Dimension(although they sat on the film for about two years).

Awesome opening weekend. Should end up with like $16M....
Nice.
Also, if this can do $6.5M on 1,700 screens, at christmas, then CURSED will have no bother topping $15,000,000 i rekon.

I have mixed feeling on it.........
The movie that becomes a sleeper hit in US is PG-13 crappier version........
On the other hand , it can make a big push to the careers of Anna Paquin and Jaume Balaguero.
Variety's article

Dimension's "Darkness" was a late addition to the Christmas skedsked. Pic had been on the shelf for more than three years. Marketing head Josh Greenstein said, "We're thrilled because the movie (distrib rights) cost us $4 million and we also have rights for U.K. and Australia."

It was one of the few horror films to increase on its second day, so it should easily make $15 million.

Nicee! Uk rights were bought!
Fun!
I'll get to see it in cinemas then! Awesome.
So, this is a mini hit in america, and i rekon it will do around $2.5M (DOLLARS) in the UK.

Saw it today and actually liked it a lot. The ending wasn't the best, so I'm definately looking forward to the Unrated/R rated DVD.

DARKNESS director talks about PG-13 version
http://www.elperiodico.com/default.asp? ... 5&h=041229
Who can translate it to English?
From what I see (using babelfish), the director doesn't know anything about PG-13 version........... He can't control it.......

on Number 10

It seems like that Variety is also surprised by the US box office performance of DARKNESS

B.O. light in the 'Darkness'
Dimension may have the last laugh with Christmas counterprogramming
By PAT SAPERSTEIN
For more than two years, it seemed "Darkness," the haunted house pic Dimension picked up from Spain's edgy Filmax horror label, would never see the light.
But the decision to open the Jaume Balaguero-helmed pic on Christmas Day, as eerie counterprogramming to the likes of the Fockers, may give Dimension the last laugh. Acquired for $4 million, the pic grossed a respectable $6 million in its first weekend, drawing suburban teens looking for a scarefest to cap off their Christmas cheer.
Despite dismal reviews for a cast of thesps who have seen better days, including Anna Pacquin, Lena Olin and Giancarlo Giannini, the pic likely will trickle into profit.
Key to its solid teen draw was Dimension's careful excision of a few gory scenes to snag a PG-13 rating, a move also recently made by "The Grudge" and "Godsend."

After New year, I think that this movie's BO life is over..... (Although with the unrated/R-rated DVD, this movie could do well in home video market.)
For the opening gross, RogueCommander is the closet.
For the final gross, Dr. Lecter would win ?

Now, DARKNESS grossed $20 million in US and $10 million oversea.
RogueCommander's prediction is the closet, he wins! =D>
