I see more commercials for this on tv than any other December movie. And they look pretty good too. It should have a very decent opening, above $10 million.

Considering this movie will only have two days in opening weekend (Sat and Sun), I don't think that it will happen.
(DARKNESS budget is only $10.6 million, and it has already grossed more than $10 million worldwide. If DARKNESS can gross $10 million in US, I will be happy.)

I'm not sure how audiences will react to a horror movie on Christmas day. It may have a lower opening weekend, but do better the next weekend.
Opening: $6.01 million
Second Weekend: $3.9 million
US Total: $21.0 million

Bumping this, cause it's release is soon.
I'm so excited for it and i changed my mind. 7 movies opened above $10M last year, so hopefully this will manage it.
I'm hoping for over $8M, like CABIN FEVER numbers.
Although, anything over $6M is good.

Opening weekend: 2.5m
Total: 13m
Multiplier: 5.2
The release date and Sat. opening will give it a high multiplier, but I can't see it doing well.

According to thebatsignal (in IMDB boards), Dimension/Miramax has purchased multiple 30 second spots from CBS during it's NFL broadcast for DARKNESS.
Good sign

Edward Douglas predict that DARKNESS will only gross $2 to $3 million in its first two-days.

I doubt it. It seems like that TV spots are in everywhere.

I might go see it sometime next week, haven't decided yet. It could be a surprise hit though, depending on how good the advertising suceeds.

With 1700 screens, I also hope this movie could gross $5 million at opening weekend.

First review of PG-13 version

He thinks that PG-13 cut does hurt this film.

My predictions...
Opening: $2.8
Total Gross: $10.0
Horror films are a pain for me to predict, because I can't tell if it appeals to people or not since I hardly ever watch scary films.

It does open on Saturday which will cut into its potential.
Final Prediction:
Saturday: $3,400,000 (PTA $2,000)
Sunday: $2,040,000 (-40%) (PTA $1,200)
Weekend Total: $5,640,000 (PTA $3,200)

I've seen more TV spots for Darkness than I have Lemony Snickets or Meet the Fockers, so I don't know what that guy is on about. :?

If you look at the box office numbers from 1999, the Sunday drops should be very low or some movies might actually increase. The biggest drop I see for Darkness is about 15%, just because it's a horror movie.

Well, normally I would expect it to drop Saturday, which is why I have an inflated drop on Sunday.

A sneak peek just aired on FX. It was more like a full trailer really. Looked really good. I wish my theater was getting it. Hopefully it expands or something, cause I really want to see it.

Those message talk about the difference between PG 13 version and rated R version.
According to them, many important elements has been deleted from PG-13 version.... It makes the movie's ending become a very confusing ending.
Notice: Those messages had important SPOILERS, including the ENDING.

One person at bloody-disgusting.com had seen both versions........... He said that [Some of the edits just didnt make any sense and ruined the continuity of the film] and [Within the first 10 minutes there were 4-5 edits made that left gaps in the story].
