2006 had a lot of soft openings in general, Mi3 OW adjusts to 76 million. It’s legs notoriously were weak for the franchise. Only a 2.85 multiplier.

What?

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE had the 5th biggest opening weekend and the 3rd biggest opening week of all-time (just behind INDEPENDENCE DAY and JURASSIC PARK)

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II had the 3rd biggest opening weekend (just behind THE LOST WORLD and THE PHANTOM MENACE) and the 5th biggest opening week of all-time

M:I came out before ID4 so should be 4th biggest OW / 2nd biggest week right.

Yes, you're absolutely right! Even more impressive...

It's hard to gain new fans when it's the seventh installment of a franchise.

It felt like “another MI” rather than the battle of battles and beginning of the end of Ethan’s arc.

I feel like of all the other movies, Sound of Freedom is the one that is hurting Mission Impossible the most (surprisingly). Those are the people who went to see Top Gun last year but are choosing Sound of Freedom over another Tom Cruise movie. In retrospect that makes this the worst possible release date it could've chosen for the entire year (as any other big movies would've moved against it).

Not sure how church crowds and donors fair against Mission Impossible, but perhaps the untapped anti-Hollywood crowd?

The anti-Hollywood sentiment among conservative circles that has ossified since the Trump years is probably generally bad news for the market.

It had a similar 5 day multiple to Mario which would get it to 225m. I think with summer weekdays it can do a bit better maybe even. The road ahead looks good for MI

Probably would've opened a tad above Fallout. Probably gonna be consistent with the previous 3 films... which should've been what was expected lol. Hopefully overseas is enough for it to be a fine performance.

Elemental's actuals went up, 9.1m and 9% decline. Phenomenal. Hopefully can drop less than 40% this weekend.

Elemental is changing from a What Went Wrong to a What Went Right in one the most phenomenal turn arounds in a long time along with Puss in Boots showing how family friendly movies can be really leggy if done correctly

Definitely doesn't look like Sound of Freedom has reached its plateau yet as it's still increasing. Could take #1 tomorrow or Wednesday too. Might be aiming for a $30m+ third weekend. Not sure if anyone seeing it is exactly interested in anything else, especially since they can see it for free, so doubt Barbenheimer will hit it too much.

Tmobile $5 movie tix promo ended on Sunday, which helps explain the higher than usual drop (but makes the 5-day numbers that much worse).

Promo is to book by Sunday. You can book any open show available till Sunday. That includes any shows today or even next weekend if the shows are listed for MI7.

Dead Reckoning is in for an ugly drop this weekend. Should recover after that and play decently throughout August. ~$175M is very disappointing but there was no way they could have predicted Barbie and Oppenheimer stealing all of the buzz.
