3x multiplier from this 2nd weekend gets it to match #1.

Evil Dead is doing awesome. Looks like it could end up at $70M+.

Margaret is holding well and may end up with a respectable total. 3X multiplier but started so small. Definitely seems like its going to expand its audience after theaters based on these holds.

John Wick's 11% drop is incredible! $183.1M and looks like a good chance for $190M at this stage.

Love Again could manage to get to a 3X multiplier despite such a bad OW. Not anything eventful but at least someone is seeing it.

Mario is at $1.217B globally. Looks like it's good for $1.3B+. Looks like it can get past Frozen's WW total of $1,284,540,518 to make it to #3 of all time worldwide for original movies (behind you guessed it, Titanic and Avatar).

Yeah but Mario is based off the most popular video game of all time. So, hardly original.

I think it can hold well against both Fast X and Mermaid (Memorial day weekend cushion too) so that should help it not only pass $300m but also get close to the original film's gross.

While I tend to agree, you could say that about anything; "Titanic is based on the most famous ship of all-time, so hardly original.", "Jurassic Park is based on a famous novel, so hardly original", etc.

There needs to be a cut off point, and I think it is as long as the film isn't a sequel, prequel, reboot, or remake, then it is considered "original".

Guardians will be hit hard this thursday bcos FX reviews are starting at 2PM and its almost losing all Imax/PLF. I see only some Prime and Dbox shows left for it. So drop this week wont be pretty. But I expect it to have good Memorial weekend as another Disney movie is opening. Post that issue is we have a big opener every weekend taking away screens. But summer weekdays should help.

Re: what is original, it's a grey area because while Titanic was an original story it benefitted from the pre-existed public fascination with the sinking of the ship

Avatar on the other hand is truly original, not based on a historical event or a pre-existing property of any kind. It's more impressive that it did what it did when it had to create interest in the film entirely based on its premise and setting that was brand new to audiences.

I think it will drop no more than 15% Thursday and increase at least 90% on Friday, like last year when top Gun opened and took away Dr stranges premium screens

Why can't they just split or share premium formats/screens? Seems that whenever any bigger film opens, any before it, even if it's only a week or two old, ends up losing the vast majority of them.

Seems pretty fair split would be like 2/3 Fast X, 1/3 GOTG.

Base it on PTA like regular screen counts.
