Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
My fav line in the article is that Jason wasn't dressing like Depp to mock Heard, he's always bohemian and that's just how he dresses. Even the studio insiders realize how bad this is. You know you have a problem when The Flash was more easy to manage PR wise.

I could see this finish below the Flash if its as toxic as things are looking.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Passengers seems like a good comparison. Big stars but toxic WOM for a movie. Still did $100,014,699 of of a $14.9M 3day weekend.
It's Wonka, Migration, and Aquaman so literally will make $ just from its release date.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I still feel like regular moviegoers who watch superhero movies won't know or care enough about Amber Heard drama. Missing $100M seems impossible, the first movie was just too big and audiences seemed to like it.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Yes, it has no chance of missing $100 million. It will be big by virtue of it being easy, mainstream, four-quadrant viewing and at being released at Christmas. The first making $300+ million probably ensures this one does at least $150 million.

Hopefully this flopping will help Wonka, Ferrari and The Iron Claw.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
The Flash actually had a decent amount of things going for it, a more appealing trailer than Aquaman 2, DCEU is just at the vanguard of shockingly fast superhero collapse, its audience outside of DC fanboys has died.

I feel like this film might have an audience outside of DC fanboys though. Aquaman is fairly different from other DC superheroes. Jason Momoa's cuddly fitness bro appeal is what sold the first movie, not a connection to Batman or Superman or whatever.

Yes and with Christmas that will probably help it get closer to Black Adam than Flash.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I still think Sherlock 2/ national Treasure 2 numbers are attainable. No one really cares about Heard, yeah everyone watched the court case, but it was pro depp, and she is hardly being marketed. Only people like us are following the story, and it won’t stop us from seeing it. Not me though, took me two years to watch the first and it was all right.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
So Marvels is at $47M. Maybe $120M total if it's lucky?
Aquaman would need to open to under $30M IMO for it to not top Marvels with the holidays.
Aquaman can do 40% of the original's box office and still get out of this looking decent since Marvels will take the brunt of the hit.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Aquaman is doing fine, in my opinion. It has been expected for a while now that it will underperform, so when Christmas helps it do better than expected (but still a drop from the first) we'll probably all be singing its praises.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I don't see an issue with Aquaman. Yes, it won't replicate the incredible BO of the first, but I can see it still hitting $200m. The first was a decent film and well liked among auds. Lack of competition will help it too.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
LOL that "The Tide is Turning" is the line on the Aquaman poster. I feel like it's a metaphor for the industry, superhero genre, WB as a whole. How many reshoots does it take to full turn the tide 180%? We shall see.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
A total like The Marvels and the Flash for Aquaman only makes sense if you view the superhero collapsing at this speed like a strange cultural phenomena. The Marvels potentially being under 100m is just too crazy, a bad performance for it should’ve been like MI/Indy.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Wouldn't it be something if most of the holiday movies flop and then give Aquaman the room to do $300M+. Not saying that will happen but Meet The Fockers adjusts now to $477.5M so the holidays can be very generous when there's nothing to see.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I'm a bit cautious for this to do over $200m domestic tbh. As of now I feel like opening will be soft, legs will be holiday legs but it depends on if the movie is like how it's been rumored...

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Aquaman global numbers coming out and not looking good. #AquamanAndTheLostKingdom has a concerning start in #Korea’s #BoxOffice, debuting at #3 and grossing soft 484k on WED Opening Day including previews, selling 64k tickets. Less than half of 2018 #Aquaman’s 983k WED Opening Day. $5M opening day in CN but not looking as bad. Can this retain 30% of Aquaman's global gross?

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Seems like early word seems more mixed than awful. I know they're trying to reboot DC but not giving this a more proper promotion and burying it in between Wonka and the Color Purple is surely a choice but WB. Just funny how much they messed up what could've been 2 easy wins (WW1984 and this) but as is superhero movies are on the fall

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
The drop offs of two 300/400 mil sequels in this and The Marvels (I’m betting sub 100 mil for both) will be stunning - will be looked at with fascination by future BO followers.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
This should have released last year before they announced the reboot. Would have done at least 500m WW. Now Audience have moved on from SH movies. Even Deadpool, Joker or Supers/Batman 2 or Fantastic Four are not sure shot bets at this point.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Joker is a 99% a sure bet IMO with DP3 a close second so don't think it should be mentioned in the same sentence as some of those others. Critical acclaim, $1B+ gross, strong multiplier, box office smash, Lady Gaga, pent up demand waiting 5 years, I think Joker and Spiderverse are probably the most critically acclaimed comic movies out there and think its safe from this MCU / DCU mess. Joker could very well go up from the last one.
The 1% is just because they say its a musical but considering Wonka, Color Purple might do gangbusters doesn't seem like people are as cool to musicals as they used to be. TGS and A Star Is Born really opened this generation to those where the quality and hype is there for movies people want to watch.
