Last night I saw Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the second time. Kicking & Screaming was my first choice, but it had sold out. Monster-in-Law also was sold out.

When I asked them, they said that K&S was performing good but slightly worse then Hitchhiker's Guide did opening day, and that Monster-in-Law was doing better then Fever Pitch but not as good as Kingdom of Heaven. Not very descriptive I know, but I'd have felt reallly weird if I pressed the ticket guy for details. Tsk, tsk. You will soon see the light.
Hehe, well maybe it did open a lot better then I thought, good call on that one, but I was just quoting the ticket dude there. Not a lot of point in making that up to try and "convince people" or whatever.
Anyways, since I didn't make it into Unleashed, I might see that and something else instead of House of Wax/Mindhunters. Too bad none of them have times with good overlaps.

Line out the door and wrapping around the block for Mad Hot Ballroom in NYC. It was yesterday around 4.30. I don't know how frequent showings are, but its pretty sure at this point they were all sold out. Just depends on if it was showing on more than one screen in respective theatres or not? 40,000/theatre ave minimum. If on one screen only. If pulling multiple screens, except Melinda & Melinda type averages.

On Saturday, here is what happened at our theater.
It was very close between Monster and Law and Kicking and Screaming. Monster and Law edged out Kicking by only 34 patrons, though Kicking and Screaming was easily the winner the matinee portion. Monster and Law had only a slight increase (because of and added show yesterday, but no added shows today), but Kicking and Screaming had a major surge (thanks to a 300% increase in the matinee portion, and strong late shows too).
Unleased, which had sold out shows yesterday, had no sold out shows today, witnessing a rare Saturday decline (note, that yesterday, it was the highest grosser, but today, it came in third). Mindhunters barely increased at all. Not sure about holdovers.
Here was the sold out report.
Kicking and Screaming - 8:50 (250 seater) (the 8:00 came close)
Monster in Law - 8:55 (300 seater) and the 9:50 (300 seater).
Crash - 9:35 (200 seater)
Kingdom of Heaven - 10:05 (150 seater)
House of Wax - 10:20 (150 seater).
Overall, it was a solid Saturday, surging more than 50%.
Here are my projections based on the crowds here.
Monster In Law and Kicking and Screaming - 9-10 million.
Unleashed - just over 3 million.
Mindhunters - just under $800,000.

Kicking and Screaming
2:20pm, 400 seats, sold out.
Trailers
Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D (talking)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (lots of talking)
Madagascar (laughs)
Herbie: Fully Loaded (laughs)
The Perfect Man (nothin')
I'm going to write a review for the site, anyways, but let me just say.. this movie was hilarious. If it wasn't so cheesy and childish, I'd say this was better than all the comedies I've seen this year.

Monster-in-Law
4:50 p.m., about 90% full (206 seats)
Trailers:
Bewitched (great reaction)
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (good reaction)
The Wedding Crashers (great reaction)
The audience, loved, and I mean LOVED the movie. The laughter was non-stop, and there was even some applause at the end. I really liked the movie too. The theater was packed as well, but that was cause they were only showing the movie on one screen.

Trailers Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D (talking) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (lots of talking) - saw a glimse of this - it was only a teaser, right? Madagascar (laughs) Herbie: Fully Loaded (laughs) - wonder how this family movie / remake will do? The Perfect Man (nothin') - no luv for Hilary Duff or Heather Locklear?

Who predicted 6m? I predicted 7m.
Anyway, Scott's report was misleading as it earned an estimated 4.1m Sat. I think the actual be slighly lower though above 10m.

Give it up DP07  . It wont be lower than 10m even after actuals. Dont be stubborn just remember how you thought Elektra would have had a better opening than Coach Carter even after Carter had 40% more reviews in

Or it could always increase with the actuals.
I meant there though that it would be at about 10.2m-10.3m with the actuals. Oh well, bring on the 24m total.
