See, I'm not paying to hear people talking, I'm paying to hear the movie. I don't scream at them, but I will shush them at first, and if that doesn't work, I'll get rude about it. People have to respect the fact that talking can be distracting. It doesn't have to disturb the entire theater, all it has to do is disturb one person who doesn't want to pay to hear a bunch of rude teenagers (which it usually is) talking to eachother. Some people have absolutely no concept of how their voices carry.

I dunno, I think we're just talking about two different things. An old lady has come over to me and told me I was "chewing my food too loudly" before and told me to either throw it away or stop eating it or she'd talk to the manager. Now isn't that just as rude?

@Moviedude: Eating a little noisely is not a bother and that lady was out of line to compain about that. What Mav is saying and I agree, there are people who talk non-stop during the movie and sometimes even give out the "twist" in the movie.

I've had so many run ins in theaters ranging from bare feet being rested inches from my face (a rather cute elf princess at The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Tuesday Marathon) to people arguing with me to change seats.
When someone is loud or kicking my seat, I use the one strike rule. If I'm waiting for it to happen again, I'm not paying close enough attention to the movie. I'm thinking about them kicking my seat or talking loud again.
You speak in something louder than a whisper or kick my seat, I'm turning around. And it won't be fun.

Saw a 7:20 showing of Sideways. Sold-out. Crowd seemed to love the film, as did I. Loved it a lot. I'll write a mini-review later, but as of now, I'd say it's not the best, but the most... complete film of last year. More later.

Then I'll see Kung-Fu Hustle either Saturday at 9:15 or Sunday at noon, depending which works better, and if it comes to Portland, Ong-Bak for sure.
I'm sure you will really like Old Boy. Great movie.

My older brother turned around at one point during RoTK as this woman would not be quiet and told her to "Shut the h*** up b****". She was quiet afterwards
During my first viewing of The Village some people behind me were quite loud and finally were told to "shut the f***" up by another viewer and they were quiet.
And then when I went to see Saw, the three other people in the theater were quite loud until I finally very loudly "shhed" them.
So yes, I don't have a problem telling people to be quiet. Its rude and its inconsiderate. Don't be sorry about it. I have absolutely no problems telling somebody to shut the hell up, and I won't let rude talking go on for long before I do. If I hear a cell phone go off, I'll immediately say something loud enough to let it known that I didn't like it, and if they think they are going to start talking on it, they'll be quickly interupted. I don't like the back of my seat kicked by idiots who have no control over their limbs. The first time, I won't say anything, the second, I'll comment loud enough to be heard, the 3rd time, I'll turn around and talk to them about it, and explain how it better not happen again. It's a shame you have to practically threaten somebody to get their respect. :???: If a cell phone goes off, it echoes throughout the theater. Then yelling "PICK IT UP!" it alright. Excuse me for paying $12 a ticket to watch a film and NOT to hear why some skanky bitch is dodging school - i am wholy within my rights to get on to people who dont shut the fuck up and watch a movie, and also about your earlier comment the girls werent "5-10 years younger " than me, they were a year or so at best. How old do you even think i am?
Im not the kind of asshole who stands up and makes a big scene in a theater to get people to be quiet, but when its evident that everyone in the theater is pissed off with a group of people for basically ruining a movie - then ill let them know that no one wants to hear them speak, they want to watch the movie.
When i watch a movie at home i do it in silence. I expect the same when i go to a theater and pay a small fortune to see a film. People who talk throughout movies need shot, i hate it so much its not even funny.

Save yourself the trouble just grab a manager, if they are anything like me, that is where I get my biggest kick is walking in and grabbing the idiot teenagers and dragging them out then once they call me an asshole I ban them and have the cop drag them away... its the highlight of my night as it happens 2 - 3 times each friday and sat night

I saw constantine at 10:25 PM last night.
238 seater, 20 people
Trailers:
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Kingdom of Heaven - No reaction, but I'm glad to see this in front of nearly every film.
The Interperater - No reaction
Stealth - Well made trailer, but the story seems silly.
Batman Begins - I had some doubts with the Super Bowl spot, but this one gives me more confidence. Visually it looks better on the big screen.
House of Wax - Laughs, and lots of them. I didn't think the trailer was very good, but not laughably bad. :???:
The Film: I thought it was quite entertaining. The visuals and Special Effects were good, as expected based on the advertisments.

Constantine
Regal Cinemas Racho Del Ray 16
1:10, 385 seater, about 15% full...
Trailers -
Hitcherhicker's Guide...
House of Wax
The Ring Two
There were a couple of others but I forgot the names. Not much reaction...
As for the movie, no crowd reaction whatsoever. Well, maybe a few laughs here and there.
I thought the movie was very enjoyable. It has it flaws and I didn't like that there wasn't really any major emotional conflict but it is an enjoyable film with great special effects. - B

Alright, I think we're definitely talking about different levels of loudness here, so I don't think I'm going to get anywhere debating about that. But my problem is how hard it is to believe a lot of you guys act supposedly so tough talking down teenagers talking, acting like their the scum of the universe and you're all the official crusader from the world of cinema that puts them in there place. I don't know, I just have a problem imagining that everyone who spends three + hours a day on an internet forum are exactly Billy Badass, and I know that 90% of you guys wouldn't say the same shit to teenagers if you didn't have a pitch black theater and a crowd to distinguish yourselves from. And Animosity, man, if you really get pleasure out of getting teenagers kicked out of your theater and arrested, well shit, sound like you really picked an appropriate name. Get a girlfriend man, it sounds like you've got some issues.
Anyways, I saw Kung-Fu Hustle last night at 9:15. Coming into it, I had been feeling pretty feverish and out of it, so I was worried i might fall asleep during the movie. As expected, it was completely sold out, to the level that there were plenty of people standing on the sides and sitting on the floor to watch it. Me and all my friends had to sit seperately, and we got there 15-20 minutes early. There weren't any trailers, they just started the movie. The crowd LOVED it though, one of the all time best reactions I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen such a huge amount of applause for a movie since... maybe ever. As long as you're not a cynical asshole and get the joke, I can guarantee you'll love it. I don't know if I'd call it the best movie I've ever seen, but it's one of the coolest and I've only on several occasions had such a big grin on my face while watching a movie or afterwards. Despite having a temperate of 102, I was completely into it. And I really hope Sony gives this one a big ad campaign, because judging by the screening, the word of mouth will be spectactular.

Moviedude, I don't buy into the whole internet movie geek is nebbish and a geek stereotype. I guess like all stereotypes there is some truth to it (Black people can dance, Asians are good with math). But I think there are an equal number of movie fans who can handle their shit as their are who live in their parent's basement. For example, my sister's husband is 6'3 (I'm 6'0), a former college athlete, and he and I nearly got into a fistfight with some guys at a Matrix Revolutions IMAX premiere.
Hell, even women aren't immune to cinema rage. Watch the documentary Cinemania if you have a chance. This little old lady nearly choked an usher to death over a ticket stub.
I don't think anyone is picking on teenagers in particular. But in general, they seem to make up the vast majority of idiots who misbehave in theaters.
I piss away a lot of time talking about movies yet I have no problem letting loose on a bunch of thugs in Chicago or a group of JAPS at Universal Citywalk. Assholes who act ignorant in theaters are all the same to me.
