 Re: Production Budgets
Can all of these be compiled in a post? Makes it much easier to compare.

I always wondered why budgets aren't adjusted for inflation as well.

 Re: Production Budgets
Anyone know the budgets of When in Rome/Spy Next Door?
So far this year films which will not make their budgets include: Edge of Darknes 80M Paris with Love 52M Extraordinary 31M Youth in Revolt 18M
BOM doesn't have the other two.

 Re: Production Budgets
Yeah. But it's no wonder the budget is so high considering they like filmed the movie three times and they still couldn't get it right.

 Re: Production Budgets
Wow Percy is also very big. It does not actually show in the movie the budget they have spent. It has to do some great numbers if it has to be called a hit specially the opening 4-day weekend. VD should easily get its money by the weekend or by the completion of first week. Wolfman of all the three looks a bit disappointing and should be a flop for sure

Not really sure but it had something to do with the quality of the movie when people expected a great movie. Also in those days the success of the movie was dependent on the WOM rather than BO collection. From what I can recollect the returns those days were very less so the studio that produced Cleopatra might have lost around 100M nowadays adjusted that was an awful lot of money those days no ?

I am not sure it is legit but IMDB shows estimated 85M for The Wolfman http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780653/business

 Re: Production Budgets
I think with all the reshoots and development costs the 150M sounds more reasonable. But reshoots aside one thing that puzzles me is studios devoting 100M for films like The Wolfman. I mean with a R rated horror film (not an action-adventure Indiana Jones homage like The Mummy) with no real stars (Recognizable but not bankable), devoting 100M to the budget is very risky. I mean what's the best case scenario for this type of film? 40/120? I know you throw in the overseas gross, but still it seems like a lot of risk with not that much upside.
Another point to take from the LA Times story is the extent that studios are being saved from tax credits. I remember reading Australia's 130M production budget was down to like 75M after its tax credits.

In 1963, it cost 44 million and it made 26 million (The amount of money that Fox got back). 307 million budget and 181 million gross in today's numbers. I think it's actual gross adjusts to about 340 million, but there are no international numbers, and no other outlets for it to turn a profit in the 60s. It was a ludicrous investment for fox, apparently 47 million adjusts for Taylor's salary.

The film still looked like it cost half that.

 Re: Production Budgets
It's still ridiculous to invest anything above $100 million for a movie like The Wolfman. Its audience is limited, as simple as that. It's not The Mummy...

...Remember Carolco greenlighted Cutthroat Island and not Crusade. What a crazy mistake ?
And Warner did not approve $150 million for I Am Legend starring Arnie and directed by Ridley Scott !!!

 Re: Production Budgets
Wolfman has shown some holding power of its own. I think so it will be close to 90M depending how hard it falls against Shutter Island next week and with overseas total should not be a total disaster but still a disappointment nonetheless. They should have never given so much of money to the movie in the first place

 Re: Production Budgets
Even though The Wolfman's opening is very good considering the expectations, the delays and the troubled production...it is still not good considering the budget. It won't make more than $80 million, so...
