Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Smaller films such as Jobs and Paranoia often have crazier CinemaScores. I wouldn't be surprised to see either fall into the C range.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Mortal Instruments - B- You're Next - B The World's End - B
A B is a high rating for a horror movie but from what I hear the finale of You're Next is a lot of fun and cheer-worthy, so I think it can leave audiences fairly pleased and result in a solid rating. I was kind of torn between a B- and B. I don't expect lower than a C+.

It sounds like fans of the Mortal Instruments books are not enjoying the movie as they changed so much, which is why I wouldn't expect them to be too terribly satisfied.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Well that's encouraging, though I doubt it's going to crossover much with people who didn't read the books anyway. Anyone else think this would have been much better as a TV show on The CW? I mean, no way all six books were going to make it to the big screen.

Yeah I too believe it could have gone True Blood route. I don't think they would be able to get all six books into movies.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I am very eager to see You're Next's score. It would be such a pleasant surprise if it were, say, a B, but I am not holding my breath.
While I'm here:
Getaway - B One Direction: This Is Us - A Closed Circuit - B+ (if polled) The Grandmaster - C+ (if polled)

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Unfortunately I don't see it being a B. Many of the reactions online seem to be negative. On Fandango, Twitter, Facebook, etc... Idiots . A B- would be really solid, IMO.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I'd cry . I really don't think it will have great legs unless the high marks from critics will outweigh any negative audience reaction, kind of like with Cabin in the Woods. But honestly I think its start will be too small to really keep it afloat. I would love to see it hold up solidly like The Descent but that was earlier August and it had summer weekdays.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I believe the upscale-adult moviegoers who do turn out for Closed Circuit (the few, the proud) will enjoy it. It is a twisty, earnest, high-gloss suspense film which moves at a fairly fast pace.
Mainstream audiences will despise The Grandmaster. It has a great deal of martial-arts action, but it is still very much a Wong Kar-wai film. People drawn in by the hip-hop scored, hyperactive television spots will be bored and mystified. It is not The Raid: Redemption.

If their site is an indication, only Getaway will be polled. http://cinemascore.com/

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
They should atleast poll One Direction its the widest release of this weekend. It will be interesting to see the Cinemascore for Getaway. I am thinking it will get negative reviews but the scoring could be driven by Gomez fans so you never know it might get B+ or something good.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I doubt Gomez fans will even care for it.
I suppose they could feel there is no use in polling One Direction. It's going to be a fans only affair and they'll easily give it an A. And even if it gets an A+ it will be front-loaded.

Getaway received a C+ CinemaScore.
Oh, and the One Direction film was indeed polled. It received a predictable A.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
C+ for Getaway is great.
For a film that has been murdered in almost all reviews, and that doesn'y really have a fanbase coming to see it on opening day/weekend, a "C+" tells me that it's an average thriller in the vein of Assault on Precinct 13 (a shit movie also starring Hawke), but not a monumental failure the likes of G.I. Joe: Retaliation or White House Down.
I still have no interest in seeing it unless it surfaces that Selena Gomez gives head or shows some breast.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
It is almost a perverse honor to receive an F CinemaScore, as Killing Them Softly did last year. It may be a studio's nightmare, but it indicates a film, in one way or another, absolutely disturbed, disgusted, and/or infuriated an audience, which, to me, is more interesting than, "Eh, it was mostly crap, but it passed the time for my me and my diecisiete niños at the 10:30 showing."

I would agree. I imagine if 2001: A Space Odyssey was released nowadays, it would receive an "F" Cinemascore.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Any number of films accepted as canonical classics would be shit on by modern audiences, definitely. Imagine showing Rosemary's Baby to a Friday-night horror crowd of texting Latino teens.
