Pretty crazy that Moana 2 will make possibly 90% of the original's gross unadjusted in its first 5 days. That was 10 years ago but was still a massive amount for the time. It didn't get past $250M so to see an opening of this size for a DTV sequel unintended for theatrical shows how much $$$ was left on the table by Disney with its Disney+ streaming strategy. Turning Red 2, Encanto (shortened release) 2 will have massive runs.

It probably just proves that regardless of where Disney projects are intended for they will all make money theatrically because moviegoers are dumb and just want cheap, easy fast food to consume.

To be fair, it's primarily aimed at children. If they wish to see it, parents will take them. Children don't necessarily require sophisticated entertainment. The quality of Moana 2 is highly likely to impact the success of a third film. They truly need to enhance the quality for the next installment. Moana 2 benefited from the goodwill generated by the first film, but a third film won't have that advantage.

I wonder how Frozen 3 will perform. I loved the first movie a great deal. I saw it 4 times in the theater and most years I don't even watch one animated movie. I only watched it the first time because I adore Kristen Bell. I did not expect it to be so good. I made sure to see the second in the theater and what a huge fucking disappointment that was. It took away all my excitement for another installment, but I will still see it. Maybe people will do the same for Moana 3.

I just liked Frozen 2's soundtrack so much that it made the whole thing worth it.

I can't remember a single song from Frozen 2. The original had me listening to the soundtrack quite frequently when it came out, albeit in private mode on Spotify so my friends wouldn't see I was listening to it.

Astonishing numbers for both Wicked and Moana 2. On its own, Wicked's performance is fantastic. What's really surprising is how Moana 2 has nearly caught up to Wicked after just one week! Still, I didn't expect Moana 2 to be #1 among adjusted Thanksgiving weeks. I thought there would be tougher competition in past years, and that $135 million wouldn’t secure the top spot.
