Boo, updated weekend estimate for Barbie is $15.10M so didn't do as high as WB was expecting.

Sun jump was 6%, not 45% WB projected. Estimate down $2M. I can say this is the first disappointing # Barbie has shown its entire run! Though it only dropped 28% so still a good weekend hold.

GT pulled off a $17.4M weekend for #1. Oh wait, WB is still contesting it: https://variety.com/2023/film/news/box- ... 235706049/

Blue Beetle actuals $580K lower as well with $12.2M -51.1%. Went up 31.5% on Sunday though so definitely saved form an embarrassing drop. $45.7M total.

Lol Barbie should be #1 this weekend. Idk if there's been a weekend like this where early previews actually made a difference on who's #1.

I like it for the records end and from a data perspective but WB might as well give GT some breadcrumbs. Barbie is on its way to just under $1.5B and $650M domestic. This may be ALL GT has for bragging rights at #1 even if with an asterisk. More people may watch it with a #1 since none of its cast can promote it. GT maybe will do $65M so we can throw some pity on it.

From Charlie:
Around 8.5M tix sold on #NationalCinemaDay in North America on Sunday with an est. $34M gross. Better than last year's 8M.

1. #Barbie - $5.6M
2. #BlueBeetle - $5.4M
3. #GranTurismoMovie - $4.6M
4. #TMNT - $3.3M
5. #Oppenheimer - $2.7M

I feel like Labor Day will be generous since the spikes this Sunday weren't as high as I'd have hoped. Oppenheimer is $700K down from the estimate.

The big winner here looks like TMNT. Paramount projected a 10% drop for $2,160,000. Instead it made $3.3M (+37% from Sat and 53% from the Sunday estimate).

So Oppenheimer didn't pass $300m this weekend. And TMNT didn't pass $100m this weekend. The Little Mermaid didn't do anything to pass $300m.

TMNT went from a 45.5% drop, then a 44.1% drop to 14.6% so <$700K away from $100M. Labor Day could be interesting as the last big family movie out.
