Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Just saw Oppenheimer a third time. I am just tickled pink when I see numbers of young women watching it knowing that some are doing so only as part of the Barbenheimer meme. Hilarious!

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Good hold for Sound. If it follows last weekend's dailies, would be at $150.5M by Sunday from a $13.9M weekend (-30%).
Barbie gets its first 8 days in a row of $20M+. Believe it's only the 4th movie to do so (SW VII - 17 days; Avengers End Game - 10 days; SW IX 10 days) and only the second do it without the help of Dec. holidays behind the Avengers End Game. Likely will be able to match Avengers at 10 days.

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
RTH could be slightly optimistic on B according to other sources. Still incredible hold. I think with strong weekdays, I dont see how it misses Mario domestic. Overseas looks even crazier. After insane weekdays, its increasing in some markets. That German 33% increase is nuts. Latin America looks to drop the worst and Asia has mostly been a non starter. Still should make 700m in current markets and hopefully it does well in Japan. I think OS and WW would be close flight.

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Oppenheimer could rise to #15 on the never #1 list after just 10 days of release on Sunday if it pulls a $50M weekend ($178M total)
Would need another $93M to top Sing's $270.4M at #1. It's all but certain to reach top 3 at least as it needs $220M+ to get past Alvin 2. Not looking likely to be able to pull a surprise #1 unless we see a flood of flops in late August and it squeaks by Barbie.

Mid 90s for Barbie I’m thinking.

It seems that Hereditary is the only A24 film to open with over 10m? Good for them as they were able to agree to the strike's conditions and can film lol

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Oppenheimer looks like 47-48m based off the 13.4m Friday. Solid for it to drop sub 50% but I was definitely hoping for 50m, considering it’s crazy imax sales.

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Talk to Me also scored a B+, which is an amazing score both as an A24 wide release (Pearl is their only other film to ever have a reported score above a C+) and as an original horror film. I wonder if it can have a leggy little run through August, especially with only one other horror release next month (Demeter).

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Haunted Mansion - 9.9m. Eh.
Drops for holdovers besides Barbenheimer look rough. Even Elemental will drop over 40% so probably won't get much past $150m.

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Haunted Mansion's previews were a little inflated from early Wednesday screenings, idk if those were reported separately. But yeah it's too bad this isn't opening like Jungle Cruise (and that had Premiere Access)

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
Ouch for Elemental and most holdovers. It's PTA drop is 28% but lost nearly 23% of its theaters. At least it will get to a 5X multiplier to become Pixar's #2 leggiest film ever. HM didn't help other Disney movies.
Talk To Me feels like the biggest winner of the weekend. $4.5M budget and it opened with $4.1M from 2340 theaters.
This does serve TMNT and The Meg 2 well next weekend though. HM not having a mega breakout and Barbenheimer cooling a bit gives enough breathing room.

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
The Little Mermaid isn't going to get to $300m without some major fudgery somewhere. I've been noticing studios almost abandoning their films in theaters more recently when the digital/home video release date comes, and TLM went on digital this past week. They shred theaters super fast and just collapse over a couple weeks. Fast X and Transformers are the most recent examples, but now it's the same case here with Mermaid. It even happened to Super Mario a bit too.
I don't know if it's in an attempt to make as much $$$ as they can while the film is still "fresh", but it's annoying either way. The week they hit digital/home video is becoming obvious at the box office by just looking at the huge theater count drop and revenue drop associate with it.

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
I was holding out hope for 40%+ Friday increases for Barbenheimer, but looking at the rest of the holdovers those increases aren't so bad. Seems like everything ended up having funky daily patterns and is still headed for rough drops, especially Dead Reckoning which is currently pacing $5M behind Dial of Destiny despite having a two-day head start on that movie. There's a real question right now of which one will come out on top domestically (although DR is at least making more bank overseas)

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
IJ5 is almost certainly coming in above MI7. MI7 won’t get to 170m, whereas IJ5 will easily get to 170, and should finish between 175 and 180

Re: Barbenheimer weekend 2 thread (...and Haunted Mansion)
MI beating Transformers by like 15 million or something will be sad.
Not only is Disney not releasing viable theatre movies straight to D+ anymore, but apparently the Little Mermaid's Disney+ release date is going to be sometime after the DVD and digital release on other platforms.
