 Re: Beast Preview
Orphan should have just been a wide release. Preferably without the simultaneous Paramount+ release. With very minimal advertising it had a better theater average than Beast. I wonder if they'll add more theaters next weekend. I would think they would.

 Re: Beast Preview
$1.6 million isn't a lot, even for 500 theatres. The more theatres you play in, the PTA will go way down. Making it wide wouldn't have made much difference to its weekend total. So it does $3-4 million instead of $1.6 million, *shrugs* it's still inconsequential. Unless it can make at least $12 million, there's no point going wide. Paramount sort of did the right thing by spreading their bets on this prequel nobody asked for. The only thing I would say is they should've chose one or the other - but not because releasing it wide would've been financially successful. They only released it in some cinemas to buoy its Paramount+ release, so releasing it in more and (more importantly) not simultaneously on Paramount+ would have eventually made it more of a major release when it did venture online.
As for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, now I'm sure this has happened before but it feels like it's one of the rare Japanese imports to make more in the United States than its homeland.
I'm really disappointed in Beast. I'm glad it went above projections based on its Friday number, but $11.5 million is still kind of pathetic for a film I hoped would be one of the few large August releases. It got its ass handed to it by a so-called niche anime, lol. Now I don't suppose there's much chance of it being leggy from such a low opening.

 Re: Beast Preview
Of course the theater average would go down if they'd gone wide this weekend. I'm talking about a traditional wide release that they actually advertised and wasn't available to stream/pirate. I see so many movies and never once saw the trailer. They don't really advertise movies that are going to be on streaming. If Paramount had done a traditional theatrical release they could have had a trailer to attach to Top Gun which would play all summer. If it were a regular wide release with proper advertising it would have opened with more than 3-4 Million. But yes if they just put it wide this weekend with no real advertising campaign it probably would have done 3-4 Million. Certainly no more than that. It's such a dead month that could have used more wide releases.
As far as Beast goes it should manage pretty good legs since there's so little product coming. Crawl opened just a little higher and had good legs. Though that had summer weekdays. This sort of does but not as many schools are out now. Regardless it's still a disappointment even if it holds up well.
