I didn't find it all that much funnier with my full theater.
Anyways, I'm seeing Unleashed, and *maybe* House of Wax (again...), tonight.

Also, I am working night shift on Thursday. It has been said that we are getting 7 prints of Star Wars (number of screens if still TBA, since we are not sure how much interlocks we will get).
That's so cool!!! Our theatre's getting six. And three different interlocks (so that's 6 houses).

From the looks of things, I'm seeing Unleashed tonight, then on Saturday House of Wax and Mindhunters.

Well, plans changed. I'm not seeing Unleashed tonight, unfortunately. Instead, me and my friends went to see House of Wax. It was a 250 seater, about 85% full (not bad for the second weekend...). I feel the same way about the movie; I love it.
I'll be seeing the 10:05pm show of Crash. I'll be back with a report.

Movie - Unleashed
Theatre - Silvercity, Ancaster, Ontario
Showtime - 5:10pm
Number of People - around 25 in a 275 seat theatre
Trailers:
Flightplan - looked ok to start and then degenerated into a lame action montage (no reaction)
The Longest Yard - looks dumb (someone said "that looks funny")
Domino - I can't wait for this (no reaction)
Batman Begins - Awesome trailer (some murmuring)
The Film:
Unleashed is ridiculously good. Great acting across the board (yes, Jet Li included) and some of the craziest and most entertaining fight sequences you will ever see. This, rather surprisingly, usurps Sin City as my favourite of 2005 thus far.
A+

That's too bad Zing, I think you'll flip out over Unleashed.

Saw the 4:55 PM showing of Mindhunters. There was about twenty people there. I don't know if that's good for this time of day because I don't go often. No reaction to any of the trailers, obviously. The film itself was terrible. See the Everyone's A Critic forum for my whole review.
I'm seeing Crash at the 10:30 showing tonight, so i'll have a report/review for that, also.

 7:10 showing Kicking and Screaming
Theatre (houston suburb, Katy) was 90% full for 7:10 showing. I took the kids. Funny movie, definitely a kids movie. Mostly 8-11 yr olds with their parents, but about 20% high school kids. Parking lot seemed more crowded than usual for a friday night when we left around 9 pm..

Here is the matinee report from my theater (before 6:00)
Mindhunters (150 seater).
1:15 - 7 people.
3:55 - 17 people.
(Yes, this will struggle to get to 1 million today, maybe it might struggle to get half a million).
Unleashed (600 seater and 400 seater)
2:00 - 53 people.
3:15 - 34 people.
4:50 - 80 people
6:15 - 77 people as of 6:00.
(Better than we thought, but not surprising since these movies always do good here, especially at night, so 3-4 million Friday seems to do it).
Kicking and Screaming (2 250 seaters, and one 600 seater).
1:05 - 19 people.
1:40 - 9 people.
2:40 - 21 people.
3:30 - 40 people.
4:20 - 20 people.
5:20 - 80 people.
6:10 - about 90 people (before I left).
(Started off slow, but gradually picking up. Good for a kid movie anyway. The nighttime shows sold alot of advance tickets so far, so a solid 6 million should be in store, since kid movies never tend to do well here).
Monster in Law (200 seater, 300 seater, and 400 seater).
1:00 - 44 people.
1:45 - 19 people.
2:50 - 45 people.
3:35 - 49 people.
4:30 - 64 people.
5:25 - 99 people.
6:20 - 80 people (before I left)
(Looks like we will see some sold out shows later on at night. On track for a solid 6-7 million).
As for holdovers, Crash really held it's own here. Kingdom of Heaven had a so-so matinee drop, but House of Wax dropped big time. All in all, it was another quiet matinee period.

Monster-in-Law
7:45 show, 450-seat auditorium, sold out (I think it actually oversold, because some people had to sit on the stairs).
Trailers
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Bewitched
Cinderella Man
Movie
After reading some of the ghastly reviews of this film, I lowered my expectations quite a bit, which probably helped in my overall enjoyment of this film. While Monster-in-Law is by no means a great movie, I actually thought it was quite funny and I was surprised at how much I was enjoying it. Although Jane Fonda, in her return to films after a 15 year hiatus, is miscast as Viola, she is so shrill and completely over-the-top that I was enjoying the heck out of her performance. Jennifer Lopez (I'll refer to her by her actual name) is actually not that bad here. Charlie is likeable enough, and Lopez probably turns in her best performance in a while. Although, considering the intense mediocrity of her recent performances, that's not a hard thing to achieve. Michael Vartan looks gorgeous but comes across as interesting as wallpaper. Wanda Sykes steals a few scenes with some deadpan comic timing. This is the type of fluffy movie where you can just sort of sit, giggle and have a good time. Don't expect much, but it's good if you've had a busy week and you just want to relax. B
The audience loved the movie, I think. They actually applauded (?) I'm not sure why, I mean, it was decent but not good enough for applause. Whatever.
Also, Unleashed may surprise tomorrow. It sold out every nighttime show on 200ish-seaters. I think Mindhunters (!) also actually sold out once at 7:30, too.
At the end of the movie, Monster-in-Law had its 10:00 show sold out, as did Crash.
No sellouts that I could see for Kicking & Screaming.

Great to hear about Unleashed. I do think 4M could be in store for today.

UNLEASHED
8:30 PM
70% in 165 Seater
Trailers:
Cinderella Man
Bewitched
Movie:
I loved it. It has a different kind of story. Good action backed up with very good acting. This is not a typical action movie.
Seems like there were quite a few Jet Li fans here.

P.S.: Hope this does really well. [-o<

Theater report from 'notfabio' of HSX from Long Beach, CA:
Similar to Jhamaker's reports, MONSTER IN LAW is easily a 20+ million opener.
However, KICKING AND SCREAMING after a disturbingly slow matinee and early evening picked up considerbly (though it still only did roughly 65-70% of (Don't know what the rest of this statement here is-Libs)
Everything from last weekend died horribly.

I ended up seeing Unleashed, and boy, I'm glad I did.
Unleashed
9:45pm, 300 seats, sold out. (this was in a 250 seater earlier)
Trailers
Batman Begins (whispering)
Duece Bigalo: European Gigalo (HUGE laughs)
The Longest Yard (lots of laughs)
Dark Water (whispering)
Cry_wolf (laughs at the AIM convo in the beginning, whispering afterwards)
Mr. and Mrs. Smith (lots of talking)
Land of the Dead (silence)
Movie
A pleasent surprise. Unleashed is so different from what the trailer made it out to be. It's an action movie, but get this... it's actually a brilliant, well-crafted, and heart-warming (in a small sense) action movie. The movie basically shows the dark side and bright side of Jet Li's life. First, the dark side, where he's being tortured and treated as a dog. This part of the movie, by the way, is brilliant. It's actually disturbing during one scene to actually watch him act like a dog when he's, you know, a human? Then, when he's discovered by a blind man and his perky daughter, who take Jet Li into their home and actually teach him to speak, to play the piano, and... to love. It was sad (in a good way), and at times, wonderful. But, don't let these descriptions fool you. Unleashed is, of course, an action movie, and doesn't fail to do so. The action scenes are some of the best I've seen in a while. This could easily be Jet Li's best performance ever. He actually did great. Morgan Freeman was, of course, great as usual. I really liked this movie. It's not your usual action movie. It takes such a simple story, and turns it into a work of art and great filmmaking. B+

I saw MONSTER-IN-LAW tonight at 9:00 in a 100 seat theater (it's at the local theater that only has three movies playing at once - it's a small junk theater in a small-ish town). It was about 70% full. I walked in at the end of the DARK WATER trailer and didn't really pay attention to it since I was finding a seat. Then they had the trailer for THE WEDDING CRASHERS. The first trailer for it sucked, and this one is a tad better but still not very good. The movie looks OK (actually it doesn't LOOK that way, but it seems like it will at least be that way). The main reason to see it will be for Rachel McAdams.
Anyway, the movie was really enjoyable. It was cute and entertaining and I laughed here and there. It was a nice time. The crowd seemed to love it and it got lots of laughs. I thought Fonda was fun, Sykes was funny, and I really enjoyed the gay best friend. A nice touch! Oh, and Michael Vartan is hot, duh.
I'd give it a 7/10 ( B ).
Since I gave this a B though I really should have only given HOUSE OF WAX, which I saw last weekend, a B instead of the B+ I gave it. I think it only got one because I'm a horror fan and sometimes easier on horror flicks. I should really lower my rating since it doesn't really deserve a B+. I mean Paris Hilton was one of the best things about it, and when she is one of the best things about it then you know you're in trouble . I actually hate her, and yet she didn't bother me in this movie at all, which is surprising. She was more likable in it than Elisha Cuthbert, whose character was a bit of a snob. She should have died in the movie instead of Paris, since Paris didn't end up bothering me at all. Plus Elisha looked king of crappy in it. She was hot in THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, and she didn't resemble anything like it here. I think Paris might have even looked better, and she's usually nasty. Of course, I don't like Elisha as much anymore since she's supposedly a bitch. I used to like her when I thought she seemed nice. Anyway, I thought WRONG TURN was much better than WAX though. Of course, WAX had the sexy Jared Padalecki. Too bad he wouldn't have been in WRONG TURN.
Man I'm rambling . Anyway, both MONSTER-IN-LAW and HOUSE OF WAX are solid flicks, but not GREAT.

I think he meant 65-70% of Kingdom of Heaven. That would also correspond to a 5M day.

Saw the 10:30 PM showing of Crash. There was about fifty people in a 250 seat screen. Pretty good for this late at night, especially for a small film in it's second weekend. No reaction to any trailers. There was, however, one drunk guy who kept yelling at the screen. That was a blast. The movie it self was not nearly as good as I expected it to be. My full review is in Everyone's A Critic.

From my theater:
Kicking and Screaming (273 seater) Harry Potter 4 is the only trailer that interested me.
First two matinees: 7 and 9 LOL
5:15 - 114 people
7:40 - 160
10:05 - 123
Monster-in-Law (271 seater)
First two matinees: 57 and 67
6:20 - 140
9:00 - SOLD-OUT (243 people)
Old movies: Hitchhiker's, House of Wax, Kingdom of Heaven, Interpreter - all didn't even top 30 people each for the prime sets.

Not really a crowd report, but at the Regal Westage 5 Unleashed sold out the 10:20 show me and my friends were heading to, which seriously sucked, especially considering Kicking and Screaming, Monster-in-Law, and the holdovers all had plenty of seats. When I asked them, they said that K&S was performing good but slightly worse then Hitchhiker's Guide did opening day, and that Monster-in-Law was doing better then Fever Pitch but not as good as Kingdom of Heaven. Not very descriptive I know, but I'd have felt reallly weird if I pressed the ticket guy for details.

At my theater, tonight really felt like summer. The combined forces of Monster In Law, Kicking And Screaming, and Unleashed sold out a combined 6 shows. If I remember the same weekend from last year, this theater had *trys to remember* I think 3 sellouts, all were for Troy
