Fox really wants Kingdom of Heaven to earn at least $20m so it doesn't look like a complete flop so they estimated $20,000,000. That will fall to $19m.

Mojo might've screwed previous days' estimates though.
Mojo receives weekend estimates from studios, right? And 'makes' daily estimates itself? Or better to say, gathers it from different sources...

You're right Nebs, but it looks rather fishy that the estimate is exactly $20 Million.........I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up at least a 1 million under the estimate, I don't see the Sunday hold that well........especially with Mother's Day going on, I don't know many mother's that would wanna go see a violent epic on this day

Got this from CNN.
The film, which cost nearly $150 million to produce, stars Orlando Bloom -- "Hollywood's No. 1 pretty boy," according to Rolling Stone magazine -- as a humble French blacksmith who takes on the Arabs during the 12th century.
Can anyone say flop?
And i thought XXX2 was a huge one but KOH topped it,atleast in the U.S regarding flops.

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN did poor.
HOUSE OF WAX did OK but kind of disappointing.
CRASH did very solid and was dead-on with my prediction. Yay CRASH!

Still solid for HOUSE OF WAX....on par with DARK CASTLE's track record.
Slightly dissapointing, but as long as it passes $30M.

It looks like Crash should have gotten the wide release instead of House of Wax. I'm glad to see that there wasn't a really big rush to see yet another horror remake, while more than expected went to see a strong film with a great ensemble cast that would have been better off with an awards season release. Terrible numbers for Kingdom of Heaven.

Weak for Kingdom of Heaven but international Numbers will save it. Not so for XXX2 I guess.

This film should go a long way in showing that films liek this are definitely on teh outs and OB is not quite ready for prime time. I'm glad this film failed. It just felt so generic. It was like Scott couldn't think of anything differeent so he went back to what was comfortable. As for Crash, I think it is a phenominal number, with an great per theater average. House of Wax pretty much tanked, well not really, the budget was low, but it really will have a hard time makeing 30 mill.

KOH is a true disappointment. I was all set to see this after watching an mtv clip of the film that was around 10 min long but after hearing how weak the film was from some friends I changed my mind and saw HOW instead.
HOW was decent. It is NOT better than nor on par with TCM imo. I was happy with the ending of course. Disappointed we only saw CMM sans shirt once but decent nonetheless.
Glad to see Amity reached 60. Was right on that Sin City would end up around KB grosses and that it would NOT get near 100. Should probably see Crash because my friends are saying it's pretty good.
Lastly, I'm ready and waiting to have the summer season truly opened when ROTS opens May 19.

\:D/ I was so right on The Holy Girl's legs! Only down 26,000 to 28,000 last weekend! That's a marginal drop considering second weekend and no additional theatres. Still holding at 13,000/theatre!
Haha, redemtpion. Since I screwed up big time on all the other predictions except House of Wax...

Since the beginning of April no movie has had a better opening weekend then Sin City \:D/ Also looks like no movie from April through now will top Sin Citys final gross.

I thought there would be a lot of people like box, who just finished exams and said he would go to theater for the first time in months. The top 10 total will actually drop to a new low. The same weekend last year everything dropped 40%+ too, but I thought that it was Van Helsing that caused those drops. Hopefully mother's day will help some movies drop lower on sunday.
I hope so too, but when I look at the top 10, I couldn't find a movie that I can definitely say, "yes, people will likely/want to bring their moms to see it today." The effect will probably be minimal.

Some interesting facts.
- This is the 11th straight weekend where we've had a new number one movie, Hitch is the only movie so far this year to repeat at the #1 spot.
- The last time the box office has gone this long without a movie holding the #1 spot for consecutive weekends was back in 1994.
- If KOH fails to make $20 million this weekend it will be only the 3rd weekend this year where a movie has held the top spot with under $20 million.
- This will be the first time since 1998 that the number one movie on the first weekend of May will make less then $30 million.
- Also this weekends top twelve estimate of $76.8 million is the lowest for this frame since 1998.
- Also the first time since 1998 that the first weekend of May saw a decline in sales over the last weekend of April.

I think Ridley Scott made it instead to show the others how to make a REAL epic. Too bad the trailers were so bad.

Like how theres a blacksmith who becomes essentially the king of Jerusalem who roused his army into battle? =;
Oh, and why didn't Orlando Bloom's character become king? "No, I don't want to be king because it would be mean to Ghi, and that is bad. I will completely ignore the fact that if I don't, then thousands of people, the same one's I am rambling onabout protecting the entire movie will die."
THE MOVIE IS RETARDED :swear:

Troy though did just that and fell a mere 25% on sunday, so who knows...

How is it any more retarded then a gladiator fighting the emperor of Rome and being allowed to kill him in front of thousands?
And that goes back to how his father told him when he was on his death bed to be a perfect night, and helping assassinate the husband of the women he'd been sleeping with would be a biiiit much.

When will the losing steak vs. last year end?
Next week vs. the opening of Troy seems unlikely.
Then even if Sith breaks out and outperforms the opening of Shrek 2 I doubt anything will match the seond week of Troy and third of Van Helsing even though they were declining fast. So even if Sith breaks the total box office could trail last year.

Very low numbers for the weekend. It looks as if 2005 is going to have a very hard time matching 2004's figures, and it doesn't look too good at all.

It's sad that I've seen 5 subpar films in a row (XXXXXX, Hitchhiker's Guide, Crash, Kingdom of Heaven, Monster-In-Law).
The last quality film I saw was the documentary Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room.

Well Amityville had a good run in the Top 5 for some time now so this was inevitable.. I look forward to the Platinum Dunes loaded DVD..

From MSNBC:
...Though "King of Heaven" pulled in $20 million, it paled in comparison to other recent blockbusters that opened during the first weekend of May, Dergarabedian said. "Van Helsing" opened last year with a three-day haul of $51.7 million, while "X2: X-Men United" opened in 2003 with $85.6 million. In 2002, "Spider-Man" debuted the same weekend and collected a whopping $114.8 million.
"Kingdom of Heaven" played in wide release at 3,216 theaters and averaged $6,219 per cinema, said Bruce Snyder, president of domestic distribution at Twentieth Century Fox. It also opened in nearly 100 international markets and earned an additional $56 million, Snyder said...
So Kingdom of Heaven has already pulled in over $75 million? Should easily top $150 million worldwide with even decent legs. If it does even better it should top $200 million.
