No, it's not based on a hoax and has never been proven to be either way.. Once again, watch the documentaries and anyone can tell that both George and Kathy Lutz were very sincere in their account and you could tell it wasn't fixed in that they took their time thinking about the question and not rushing and just giving any old reply to them.. It boils down to this: I'll give George Lutz the brunt of criticism for not shopping around for a better attorney before trusting any old shiester when giving an account of a story like this.. Once someone puts an extra added spin and adds to a story like the attorney and Hollywood did, it takes on a life of it's own and Fact becomes distorted from fiction and you don't know what's true and what isn't.. You don't leave a home just up and abruptly like they did without taking any clothes or food with them and leaving it all behind not to return.. When the psychics and TV crews went there, all of this stuff was still there untouched.. Wouldn't you at least take some food or clothing if you were just gonna abandon your home for no reason other than not being able to afford it??? You would at least take your belongings but they didn't.. They also morbidly slept in the Defeo's beds after they were murdered in them which is just gruesome to think about it, plus used there furntiure.. After a brutal and terrible tragedy like that withb6 people being shot to death in their sloeep, that's bound to give off some negative vibes and bad karma and I believe i this stuff and their story.. It happens more than you think, but you have to ask yourself this: If this story happened to you like it did them, would you be afraid to tell someone for fear of being mocked, laughed at and ridiculed?? I wold cause that's the type of world we live in where "Seeing is Believing"..

BKB, you still actually think that stuff with the Lutz family *actually* happened? This was proven to be a hoax a while ago.
Anyway.
I'm still not sure about Kung Fu Hustle, I'm not feeling huge buzz from it. I'll go with a little under $9M for the weekend.

Kung-Fu Hustle just entered the top 20 in Yahoo Movie Buzz list at No. 18: http://buzz.yahoo.com/movies/. No other new openers have done that.
Kung-Fu Hustle is also No. 15 on Yahoo's Most downloaded Trailer list: http://movies.yahoo.com/trailers/, even though its trailer isn't even on the list of featured trailers. It is also not on "Opening This Week" at the movie page. If any other movies got the same treatment, I doubt it will be appearing on those two lists, except for the huge movies. So the feeling I have is that despite all the things that hurt people's awareness about it, it is still showing up on the radar screen, and that means the buzz is there, and people are searching for it directly.

Century 20 Great Mall:
The Interpreter - 2 screens (8 showings)
Kings's Ransom - 1 screen (5 showings)
A Lot Like Love - 1 screen (5 showings)
Kung Fu Hustle - 3 screens (15 showings)
I expected Kung Fu Hustle to load up on the bay area theaters, but securing 3 screens at the great mall theater still surprises me.

A score of 5 is very low on the buzz list. If anything it just reflects badly on the other openers rather then well on KFH. Although with The Interpreter I wouldn't expect much of a score on the buzz list since it will have an audience 70%+ over 25.

Well perhaps you should bone up on your facts first in the case with the Lutz's and watch the History Channel Documentaries on the case and afterwards, you come back sweetheart and tell me if you still think they were lying or that a Lawyer and Hollywood took it upon themselves to add to their story causing a distortion in what was true and what wasn't.. No offense, but I can't stand closeminded people that listen more when someone cries HOAX then they do when someone offers facts proving that it happened and what do they do?? Turn the other cheek and don't pay attention.. Believe what you want, but get your facts straight 1st and foremost before simply just dismissing it...

See B, I'd tell you to do the EXACT same thing. Everyone's admitted it's not real, if they're changing there claim that's fine, but it's like saying that the Y2K bug really does exist, and just because people think it didn't hit then, doesn't mean it still won't...

The Interpreter and Kung-Fu Hustle get a great deal of screens this weekend, especially the latter to my surprise. These will be the top 2 movies this weekend. However, I still expect The Interpreter to be at least $5 million ahead of Kung Fu Hustle.

I'll be seeing The Interpreter tomorrow, probably at the 4:00 PM showing (or whatever time it's playing in that frame) I don't expect much of a crowd at that time for this type of movie.

I'll be seeing The Interpreter tomorrow, and hopefully, Sahara sometime this weekend. I might be able to see Kung Fu Hustle this weekend as well, but if not, then maybe next weekend.
All the buzz (and MovieDude/xiayun's praise ) has convinced me.

Awwww...poor baby. I'm sure your prior commitments will be worth it, and you'll have the movie to still look forward to, as I'm sure it's going to be something you'll like.

I admit we haven't had much TV advertising for it, but at 3:20 yesterday (opening day here) I was one of only 6 in the theatre. I hope people are going later, because I hate it when good movies get ignored. Million Dollar baby got caned by The Aviator in New Zealand when they didn't advertise it much and when my mum told people at her work that it was good more than one asked her if it was about a baby.

I went to see it at 12.15 last weekend, it was showing on the biggest screen and it was only about 3% full.
But thats because it was the first showing of the day on a Friday.

The Interpreter is 2 hours and 8 minutes long. MovieTickets.com just updated the website.

Holy crap! I looked at Wildbill's KUNG FU HUSTLE crowd report. At 12:20ET show, 5% of 180 seats! At least he felt it was an okay movie like the crowd does. (maybe 7/10 and 3/4 mean an OK movie, doesn't it?)
this is a daytime slow business for this movie, but will be quite bigger after six o'clock.
Michael, you were referring INTERPRETER, right?

Yeah, it was out last weekend in the UK, it did well here though - going to see it early on a friday is rarely ever an indicator of how it will do over the frame.

Saw the 4:05 showing of The Interpreter. I'd say there was enough people at my theater for that time that a 20 million opening is possible. The trailers were...
Must Love Dogs A new romcom starring Diane Lane (looking good as ever and shows cleavage =P~ ) and John Cusack, and somebody I could have sworn was Cesar Romero, but since he's dead, I'm guessing it was Christopher Plummer. It looks funny.
The Perfect Guy A new romcom starring Heather Locklear and Hilary Duff. Looks to have a little heart.
Bewitched Looks pretty good, but I'm guessing it will only be as good as every other big screen adaption of a sitcom, which will be just fine.
Flightplan A thriller starring Jodie Foster that is due out in September.
Reactions to the trailers did not reflect my own personal feelings, like they coincidentally do when others post trailer reactions. [-X

Isn't that the way predicting is done around here?
I knew I forgot something. The trailer of Crash was also shown before the movie, and it just looks outstanding. 2 more weeks til it's out, and I am excited about it.
