I think she believed it was cursing past 80. I have to say it is getting very crazy.

How is that strange.

No film has gotten bigger midnights than day yet..

Using same midnight/day ratio as DH1, you get a 111 million opening day for DH2. lol

So far, it's really proving to be the motion picture event of a generation.

This is more than history. A $100m OD would be like the coming of Christ for the box office. :funny:

You know, Libs has a point about optimism. I'm having a blast just seeing how high this thing will go.

If it breaks $100M OD, I mean it has to break $200M OW right? And then that kind of assures $400M?

It would ensure $400m total, although not necessarily $200m OW. It will be very close, because if it breaks $100m OD, it means the midnight percentage is not as humongous as previous feared, and a $50m+ Sat would be certain.

It could still fall under 200 million if it just breaks 100 OD. I don't expect a multiplier better than New Moon which had a 1.96 multiplier. I personally don't see anything above 1.9. So really I think it needs to get above 105 million to assure 200 million.

I am not going the 100 million OD day craze yet. I think it looks good to open over 80 and we will see what happens from there.

These updates are so exciting! The Saturday drop is going to be fun to wait for. Anything over 170 million for the weekend would be splendid.

It all depends how many later buyers and walk-in business it attracts. The $24m figure from earlier, or $80m figure Nikki threw out, is deducted from the total tickets sold for the day by that point of the day, not the total tickets from the shows that were already completed by that point.

If the early numbers are any indication, I think we’re looking at an $85-$100 million domestic opening day (probably closer to $100 million than $85 million).

And that could well bring a $250 million opening weekend (domestically) within reach.

In my opinion, there’s a 50-50 chance “Deathly Hallows Part 2″ will become the highest-grossing movie of all-time.

Exactly, so that included all of the Imax shows that are sold out for the entire evening already, etc.

However, it was posted at 4pm EST, which is 1pm PST, meaning in parts of the country it still had almost an entire day of play to go. And though presales have been huge, there is still walk up business for this. The 43.5 million midnight shows can attest to that.

Doesn't change the fact that ir rose $4.7m in 1h...

We have to see another update if that hourly pace kept up...

Yes, if it hits anything above $170m on opening then it pretty much will murder both ROTK and ROTS.

I remember when spiderman came out and it was sellout after unexpected sellout so the theatre kept adding new showtimes to meet the demand.
