***MY EARLY PREDICTIONS***

1. BEAUTY SHOP - 23.4 MILLION (3-Day)/27.5 MILLION (5-Day)
2. SIN CITY - 20 MILLION
3. GUESS WHO - 14.5 MILLION
4. MISS CONGENIALITY 2 - 8.4 MILLION
5. ROBOTS - 8.4 MILLION
6. THE RING 2 - 7.5 MILLION
7. THE PACIFIER - 5.7 MILLION
8. THE UPSIDE OF ANGER - 4.1 MILLION
9. HITCH - 3 MILLION
10. HOSTAGE - 2.9 MILLION
11. ICE PRINCESS - 2.6 MILLION
12. MILLION DOLLAR BABY - 1.9 MILLION
13. BE COOL - 1.4 MILLION

SIN CITY is definitely an acquired taste, like the KILL BILL films, but way more of one than those. The black and white is going to turn many people off. I only know one person who wants to see it so he's who I'll be going with next weekend. I think it looks awesome, as do many film fans and comic book geeks, but there are a huge amount of people that think it looks stupid (because of the black and white obviously). The movie is going to have great reviews and a big following (just like the KILL BILL films), but the look will turn many mainstream moviegoers off. Still, I think it should be able to do 20 Million. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was much lower. It could definitely go either way. My cousin said she hopes it bombs though like SKY CAPTAIN because she thinks it looks terrible. I agree that SKY CAPTAIN did and I don't plan on ever checking that one out. The look of the movie is awful in my opinion. But I love the look of SIN CITY.

Well most sequels open better than their previous ones. I know its not quite a sequel but a spinoff but the movie also has the female audience appeal that Barbershop lacked

Since when did Barbershop 2 lack a female audience? It had Eve and Queen Latifah in it, the latter of whom was featured pretty prominently for the size of her role. And sequels often do well, but name me three spin offs that have done better opening weekend then the original. This will get a slightly larger female drawing, but why a larger male one?

New Predictions:

It's going to be a close race this weekend at the box office, between an internet-hyped film and an urban comedy spin-off. The winner though will likely Sin City, the latest effort from director Robert Rodriguez. Based off Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name, the film has a great deal going for it: cast, reviews and hype. However, it is shot in black and white and also may be a little to "different" for many viewers. A strong ad campaign has kicked in and will definately help the film. The film should top the weekend with $24 million slightly above what Rodriguez's last effort, Once Upon a Time In Mexico made. With good word of mouth, the film should show strong legs and could easily finish with $80-$90 million domestically.

Opening on Wednesday, Beauty Shop is the latest entry in the Barbershop franchise, this time featuring Queen Latifah's character featured in Barbershop 2: Back in Business. Spin-offs don't always do well at the box office, but this one should pull heavily from the urban demographic. The only problem is it will also be competing with the second weekend of Guess Who. Beauty Shop opens on Wednesday, which will also decrease its weekend take. Expect $3.5 million on Wednesday, $2 million on Thursday and $18 million over the weekend. A five-day total of $23.5 million is about equal to the previous two entries in the franchise. It should also finish in the same range as Barbershop 2: Back in Business with around $65 million domestically.

Third place should easily go to Guess Who which had a strong, but unspectacul #1 opening last weekend. The biggest problem is that the urban market from which it draws will also be drawn to Beauty Shop this weekend. Expect its drop to be higher then normally expected this weekend, at around 50% for an $11 million weekend take. That should push its total to over $40 million domestically, which is still quite good.

Fourth place should go to last week's dissapointing sequel, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous. An underperformer last weekend, it should see its gross cut almost in half to $8 million this weekend. Weak legs will prevent this film from grossing more then $60 million domestically, although even that might be a stretch.

Next on the charts should be yet another under-performing sequel, this time in the form of The Ring Two. Coming off a 61% second weekend drop, it shouldn't fare quite so bad this weekend. It will still see its take cut to $7 million eliminating all chances of it making $100 million domestically.

More to come...

Wow, our predictions are so similar. The Upside of Anger may very well decide it, and I'd have had it at 4M too if I spent a little more time before going to bed last night. I should've played the only potential danger film safe since it could gross as low as 3M, as BOG predicted.
