Does Alamo count as a historical epic?

I think the public just too epic-ed out at the moment.

And I hope Orlando Bloom takes this as a hint to quit blacksmithing, quit arrowshooting, quit swordfighting and do some smaller movie. If he wants it to make money, just put in a love scene.

I don't want to see any more buckled swashes until Pirates 2.

Anyone know how these international numbers compare to King Arthur?
Is it possible that it makes over 80% of its worldwide gross overseas?(Alexander came close with 79.5%) :-k

$75,600,000 (USA)
£10,812,243 (UK) (19 November 1995)
£3,342,433 (UK) (12 September 1995)
$16,679,000 (UK)
$202,600,000 (Worldwide)
$127,000,000 (Non-USA)
€6,878,567 (Spain) (10 July 2003)
ESP 1,136,000,000 (Spain)

Um...baumer, it made $56 million overseas in its first weekend with Japan as a major market still ahead. Troy opened to $54.7 million in about the same amount of markets overseas. Troy went on to gross $300+ million overseas. Braveheart made only $127 million overseas. Kingdom of Heaven will pass Braveheart's worldwide gross before the end of May.

With $76m already in the bag it'll easily pass $200m.

Very possible. I suppose the most it can reach in the States is around $60 million. It'd have to make $240 million overseas in order to make over 80% of its worlwide gross overseas. Considering the international opening of $56 million, it is certainly a possibility. Troy opened with $54.7 million and made over $300 million, so this one should be able to make at least $200 million, but probably even more.

So, to answer your question, yes. It is likely.

Sorry, I am out of it with international numbers recently. Thanks for the info.

I think it is funny how some people are saying this will take 'forever' to turn profit. This movie should make a profit before it ever leaves theaters.

It is a good film for what it is worth. Not perfect, but it will do well overseas, and may even surprise in the Middle East.

Yeah, this movie is making a killing at the international box office. It'll turn a profit soon enough.

$57m opening weekend internationally is a great number.

I'm thinking a 55%+ drop for second weekend now. Anyone else thinking the same? Its terrible Saturday and weekdays are looking to point to frontloadedness.

Well, didn't Troy stay the same on its first Saturday? I think it'll drop around 50%.

Very unlikely. Let's say it drops 10% both today and Thursday, similar to what Hitchhiker did, it will still have 1.2M on Thursday. With a 150% increase, which is on the low end of Friday increases in May, that will yield a 3M Friday. 50% drop seems to be worst case. With a little better hold the next couple of days and 180% increase, then it will reach 11M for the weekend.

I rethought the numbers... A 2nd Friday increase of 122% like Troy would put in around $9.2 million, but that Friday of Troy's was later in May when some schools had been released.

I'm thinking around 130-145% Friday increase, due to competition from Monster-In-Law. Most females saw Kingdom of Heaven for Bloom, and now they have a newer option. That would lead to a $10.0 million weekend, slightly less than a 50% drop.

I dunno, I think it's terrible weekdays point to it's core audience being at work more than anything else. I don't expect it to do great this weekend but a fair amount of adults will stumble to the theater. :)

Hmm, not really.

The movie costs $130 million. I think the advertising costs at least $30 million (domestically only). That brings us to $160 million.

Let's say the movie makes $60 million in the States. It'll give the studio around $33 million. Overseas, it'll probably gross around $220-240 million, but the studio gets a smaller percentage from there and besides that there are international marketing costs as well, that needs to be factored in. I'll be generous and say that the studio will get 40% from the overseas gross as pure profit (probably it's more like 30-35%). That'd give it around $90-95 million from its international performance. So overall from its theatrical performance it'll earn around $125-130 million. The domestic costs, however, are $160 million at least. So it'll wait until the DVD release to turn into profit.

Unless of course it makes more than $320 million overseas which is unlikely.

Its OFFICIAL numbers for intl. markets in opening week are out..

at Box Office Mojo

I'm disappointed that this movie didn't break the record in Egypt (the holder is Passion of the Christ with US$100k+)..

however, this film made $83,099 on only 6 theaters (poor us ](*,) ) with avg. $13,450.. that's still awesome!

but look at UAE (United Arab Emirates) $829,741 ... that's HUGE
Usually, maximum theater count in UAE is 20.. if this movie indeed opened in 20 theaters.. that means it has avg. at $41,487

anyway, it did pretty decent in Lebanon..

That's good to know JURiNG. I thought it would do well in the Middle East. It may yet surprise even more in that region in the coming weeks. It's doing decent numbers here in NZ and should still hold the number one spot this weekend also.

It was even underestimated a little bit. It made $58,100,000 as of May 09. That's a great result!

Domestically however it's not doing good, falling another 11% on wed...

Really interesting numbers. You have done a good job putting them together Archangel.

I have just one question. I live in Sweden, but I can not find Swedish Boxoffice numbers anywhere. I'm wondering where have you found the Swedish Boxoffice numbers? I've been looking all over the internet to find them, but without success. I would really appreciate an answer. [-o<
