Post Re: Japan Box-Office: New Year Holiday Period Daily Estimate
I have to say that I am excited for this year 2023 Japan box office with a Detective Conan movie possibly joining the Uber-Blockbuster club, Hayao Miyazaki supposedly final film, and another Live-Action Toho Godzilla film. Also decided to put my name in Japanese as part of my signature since this thread is my home on WOKJ.

Does someone have the exact numbers of admissions of Titanic, AEG, Avatar 1, Infinity war and NWH with all the re-release taken into account ?

Is AEG Avengers: Endgame?

I don't think the Avengers have been rereleased, or if they have, it was very miniscule and limited like most rereleases.

Titanic is 17.43 million (this includes the rereleases).
Avatar is 10.46 million (this includes the rereleases).
Endgame is 4.15 million (no significant rerelease known).
No Way Home is 2.82 million (this include the rerelease).
Infinity War is 2.50 million (no significant rerelease known).

Don't have the time this afternoon to update the 2022/2023 charts, but I will this evening.

Okay, so that Avatar 2 total is as of 01/02. Due to the holidays delaying things until mid-week, the reported totals are a bit all over the place. Most are as of the 3rd, but some are as of the 1st, 2nd, or even 4th. So... just keep an eye on the Days In Release that is always in [brackets] on the 2022/2023 chart updates here in the next hour.

Avatar 2 - ¥2,405,890,000

As of 1/3

Ouch! I see the mistake now. Avatar Total in JPY is as of Jan 2.

That's why Disney Japan Figures aren't matching Disney International Figures

Several of Shinkai's films were rereleased (4DX/IMAX) back in October for a week (maybe two?) ahead of Suzume's opening. They didn't earn much (well, Your Name. adding ¥140 million is quite good), as you can see from the updated totals, but good to know they were reported and the totals updated.

I'll update them in next week's post.

So for both Slam Dunk and Suzume they have seen an increase from prior weekend, while Avatar will have a little decline. For the Detective Conan compilation movie it opened in 3rd place OD Friday, but this weekend it could open in either 3rd or fourth place.

Another milestone related to this thread is that pretty soon it will hit 5 million views. That is sure another major milestone for this thread and I am happy. It seems this thread accounts for around 80% to 90% of WorldOfKJ activities.

Should see many increases this weekend since Sunday will likely be greater than last week too, and if it's not in admissions, it will be in revenue since last Sunday was discounted. And Monday is a holiday, which will boost Sunday evening shows.

The last weekend of the New Year holiday period is typically strong (last chance for many to see the movies currently playing), but it'll be even stronger this weekend since last weekend was delated due to New Year's Eve/Day both landing on the weekend.

From looking at the weekend estimates from several twitter accounts it seems that Suzume saw a weekend increase, Slam Dunk a little decline, while for Avatar 2 a decline too.

P.S. Also RRR just hit the half a Billion Yen mark.

I don't think they're taking into account last Sunday was a discount day which drove the avg. ticket prices down.

Suzume definitely increased since it also saw a ~2% admissions increase. My guess is ~+10-12% in revenue.

Slam Dunk is down ~-8% in admissions, but that will likely be flat or maybe even up in revenue by +1/2% or so.

Avatar 2 is down on both fronts, ~-20% in admissions, so probably around ~-10% in revenue.

I think everything in the Top 10 increased except for Avatar 2. Black Night Parade is a little iffy, but it will be roughly flat worse-case.

Good to hear Corpse but yeah Avatar 2 run I think may point to a ¥4B or ¥5B cume looking at the estimates from you and after the holidays are over I guess it will decline even further.

As things continue to progress with A2 everywhere else the more I take personal offense to its reception here.

Sometimes going your own way is fun; sometimes (and especially given precedent) it's just annoying, sorry!

¥5 billion is going to be very difficult. I don't want to say "impossible" yet, but it's a big reach. ¥4 billion is a reasonable goal.

Its run could very well "end" on February 3rd, if we assume the special Demon Slayer "movie" takes all the premiums. The first Avatar dropped 81% when it lost its 3D screens, so something similar could happen here again.
