Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
Trying so hard to stay spoiler-free, but at the same time I don't want to completely go on hiatus. This is the last Nolan Batman film, so I want to appreciate and enjoy the hype leading up to next week, while still remaining spoiler free (mostly, aside from things I've thought of or found out about months ago). This will be a tricky balance.

David Poland is saying they moved the embargo from Tuesday to Sunday night at 11:59 Pacific time, so 2 AM Central and 3 AM Eastern. So looks like we should have plenty of reviews on Monday. Quote: @DavidPoland: The TDKR review embargo now set for 11:59p pdt Sunday night. Who will break it and claim to be the FIRST!!! review? YESSSSS!

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
The midnights are going to be enormous.
The hype for TDKR is far higher than it was for TDK. It doesn't have the HL effect, but it does have TDK as a predecessor. In todays dollars, $585 million dollars worth of people saw TDK in theaters. The vast majority of them left clamoring for a seqeul the second the credits began to roll. BB was a hit, but TDK was much better and much bigger. Like Shrek 2s explosion over the first, Pirates 2 explosion over the 1st, the follow up the most beloved film of the past decade was always going to be incredibly hyped. For as hyped as TDK was - it only opened in 9,300 screens. TDKR will top 12,000. For as hyped as it was, it could have been more front loaded. It achieved an incredible multiplier.
Take the incredible, UNHEARD OF demand for a sequel following The Dark Knight.
Add in what appear excellent reviews. Add in what has been constant and excellent marketing. Add in finale factor. Add in dead market.
And you have one of the most anticipated movies of all time. Not since the 2nd star wars movie has a sequel to a film which was in the top 2 all time opened. The Dark Knight Rises is certainly the most anticipated films since 1999, and probably in the top 5 of all time.
Add in the IMAX premiums. Add in trilogy premiums to the midnights. Add in enormous screen count.
And you have the set up for a film to come as close to maximum capacity as we have seen in the past 20 years. The Dark Knight rises is going to completely blow the doors off the box office record books.
Official Prediction
Midnights: 50 million (some theaters are showing it on every screen they have, and it wont be enough. Trilogy & imax premiums will also count towards midnights)
Friday: 70 million. Many theaters are showing it round the clock (3 am, 6 am, etc) and giving it every screen. Exposure is huge. Turned aways should be minimized for a film with this type of size.
Opening day: jaw dropping 120 million
Saturday: 65 million
Sunday: 55 million
Total: 250 million

Excel wrote: Add in finale factor That is something many people underestimate I think. WB has been marketing TDKR as the conclusion to Nolan's Batman movies since the original teaser last summer. That is a very powerful piece of advertisement. It's what made LotR:RotK open with the 3rd biggest opening day of all time, despite being 3h20m long, opening on a Wednesday, in the middle of a month not known for big openings. It's also what made Revenge of the Sith's opening day completely annihilate Clones's opening day. It's also what made HP8 explode compared to HP7.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
I think if TDKR was in 3D like Avengers, Avengers' OW record being broken would be very close to a lock. But it's not in 3D, so it's going to have to sell a lot more tickets in order to beat Avengers. Which is far from impossible, but not necessarily likely either.

I heard the final scene is Bruce Wayne in a wheelchair in a nursing home when he is 78 years old. The make-up is supposedly really well done. Bruce tries to remember his old days as Batman, but he has developed Alzheimer and has trouble remembering them correctly.

Seriously, choubachou. Don't be a cunt. I'm sure what you wrote is bullshit, but let's not play the whole, "I heard it ends with [posts rumor or theory]" game because a person will end up being right.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
If anyone does spoil it, he or she should just be banned. Because it would obviously be done out of malevolence. I even hold the opinion a film's ending becomes fair game after it's been out on DVD/Blu-ray for a while, but no way anyone this week just lets this film's ending slip (whoops!) without meaning to anger people.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
So many reviews are going to reference The Avengers, which is strange. Nolan's Batman films and The Avengers are "superhero movies" the way Children of Men and The Hunger Games are "dystopian stories."

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
Unrelated thought: Warner Bros./New Line should've attached an extended Hobbit preview (the Comic-Con footage?) to IMAX showings of this film. To introduce audiences to the 48 frames per second shooting style and just to kick start hype and conversation in a major way. Maybe even do it in 3-D, handing out Middle-earth themed glasses.
Showing The Dark Knight Rises' prologue before Ghost Protocol last year created so much excitement.

Holy shit, I was only being an attention whore. Calm down guys. No way WB would have let Nolan make that shitty ending.
