 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
Darn. I almost took the lead. I'm $116k away. Just one more day until I become #1, then I remain there for the entirety

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
I wonder what the #1 pick next year will be. Avatar will likely hit the $550M, but those movies are such a risk because of delays. Zootopia 2 maybe?

Upon a quick check, next year is stacked. I'd say Avatar 3 will top the year.

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
Deadpool - 550 Bad Boys - 195 Garfield - 75 Civil War - 69 Quiet Place - 145 The First Omen - 30
Alien - 70 Trap - 80 Wolves - 90 Never Let Go - 5
1310
Dune - 282 IF - 111 Twisters - 250 Mean Girls - 72 Ordinary Angels - 19
Wicked - 220 Transformers - 130 Here - 70 Terrifier - 15 The Wild Robot - 50
1219
I give Algren the advantage but my unreleased films have a little more upside to beat those expectations. Alien, Wolves and Trap are only going to be so big.

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
My current total is $306M. Add $100M for Ends and $80M for Longlegs to bring it to $486M. If Joker and Moana both hit $500M, that would comfortably put me over both of you.

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
I don't see Wild Robot doing too well, actually. It feels small. $35m-ish And I also don't see Wolfs doing that well either. Maybe $30m total I feel my real competition will be from Rev or flip1, not you Shack, sorry Anyway, I'm #1 now and I ain't giving it up!

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
Me and flip1 go head-to-head this coming weekend. Trap vs Harold. A seventh rounder versus an eighth.
I'll have the top two placed movies this weekend. Nice.

Just give it up and go back to Yellowstone, bro. Also, just to defend myself a bit, I was actually right about the American heartland championing a blockbuster of their own this summer. I just picked the wrong movie. Should have known Powell was the new Costner.

The American heartland has a favourite every year. Picking the right film is 99% of the battle. You failed, man. Own it

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
A round 7 battle coming this week: Flava's It Ends with Us against Riggs' Borderlands.
Riggs could leapfrog Shack back to 3rd place, although unlikely. But Flava has no chance of moving his position, even if it does $100m.

I think we can safely say that Flava is winning round 7.

It's really weird to see how little love Romulus had at the draft, some picks that went before it look just silly in hindsight.

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
It seemed like an obvious bomb to me after Alien Covenant.
Considering the budget cast for this one, can’t fathom how the projections are so high.

Doing the draft during actors strike had people spooked about the second half of the year. And I truly believed in Horizon.

zwackerm wrote: It seemed like an obvious bomb to me after Alien Covenant. I wouldn't say bomb. But I also did not pick it with $100m+ in mind. That's a welcomed surprise for me. However, I did pick it. I picked it with the fact that it's an established brand and that it was the director of the Evil Dead remake. So there were factors to it, and everything else left in the pool at the time did not excite me as much. Also, I always try to get a couple of horrors to balance my draft out. It's not only blockbusters that we need to seek. I try to seek fillers. Those three or four $50m, $60m, $80m grossers that REALLY win your draft. And if they go above and beyond then it's all gravy. It's not usually the biggies that win a draft. People pick those and they more or less cancel each other out. It's those mid-tier grossers that win it for you. At least that's my philosophy. flip1 has done best at that this year, well, at least in the first half of the year. But now I've got Romulus, Quiet Place, and Civil War propping up my first four rounds, I will succeed this year and win the whole thing. And I had to replace three films too!

Alien was bigger than I expected but Algren getting screwed on Wolves makes up for it.

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
I got screwed more by having to replace Jordan Peele Untitled Film with Civil War.
I had Romulus at about $70m total, so a $140-50m total is so very welcome

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
So what does Romulus end with, $125m? $140m? even $150m?
...because I've calculated that I will be at $1.1 billion without Romulus, Wolfs, and Never Let Go.
So I project a final total of $1.25bn.
And if Wolfs is replaced, then $1.3bn because I'll either take Longlegs ($80m) or Strangers: Chapter 1 ($35m).
Nobody is getting close to that. flip1 will be closest but still far away.

 Re: 2024 Draft Group 2
I can get there with a breakout from Wicked.
Wouldn't rule out Flava'd making like 900 million from Joker and Moana 2 combined.
