found TDK tracking data 3 weeks out. The Dark Knight (Warner Bros., 7.18) is looking huge -- 76, 60 and 19, and it's three weeks awayhttp://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2008/06/ ... _s_tra.php

I would think not considering they used 3D and inflation for Potter to beat TDK's record, but didn't mention either one of them when they bragged to the press about Potter's records.

1st choice would be higher when marketplace is empty or light as it was for SM3. I dont think even Avengers tracked that big.

Tracking can be wrong. I mean, I'm not so brazen as to say it's good news that unaided awareness is lower, but I'm not about to freak out over it. The LA Times actually gives a compelling reason why such variations are possibly irrelevant in direct comparison: Spider-Man and Ice Age 4. That Rises can get 22% first choice with those two around is pretty amazing. The unaided awareness should tell WB to get more fucking TV spots out! Presumably that 4th trailer will also help.
Along with the data already found, Pirates 2 also had a definite interest rating of 67% 3 weeks out, which I think is still more or less unequaled at that time frame.

I would not argue about tracking with BJ. He has been tracking this for a long time. He can give you comparisons to any blockbuster. So TDKR is doing great. Its on course for an OW record. WB just needs to keep the buzz and amp it up the week leading to the release.

People should not freak out, remember that most tracking experts did not imagine the avengers would open that high with its early midnight numbers, so The Fire Rises

The low unaided awareness number actually makes sense. WB just went into full marketing overload this week. Before then TDKR was mostly being promoted during the NBA Playoffs/Finals which is understandable. I'm sure if we give it some time TDKR will doubt EXPLODE in terms of awareness.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
The issue with tracking is the maximum, and it is why pinpointing where the HUGE ones will land is difficult. The biggest films ever are used as the bench marks; and I do not think a film has ever "tracked" to break the opening weekend record. Pirates 2 tracking at something like 118 the week before it opened in 2006 (the record was 114), but aside from, I don't think tracking ever really tops the current record, as it is uncharted territory.
If one analyzes the tracking of every record breaker since 2002, you will find that tracking always has it pegged about 10-15 million below the current record.
Spider-man was tracking in the 70s. Opened to 114. Pirates 2 in the 110s. Opened to 135. Spidey 3 in the 130s. Opened to 153. TDK was tracking in the 120s. Opened to 158. Potter was tracking in the 140s, opened to 167. Avengers in the 150s, opens to 207. This is more of a fluke.
The area 10-15 million below the current record is about as high as tracking can probably go. If it comes within that area of the record, look for the record to fall by a decent amount. I.E. If TDKR is tracking in the 190s or high 180s whenever actual tracking is released, its a good sign.
If final week tracking pegs it at over 200 million...everything is going down.
