Post Re: China Box Office
I saw Salvation 3 times in China, but I can't find any BO information of it's China run. Considering it made 246mil worldwide and BOM individual foreign hauls only account for 221mil, I'm guessing it made about 25mil in China. Or should the China BO perhaps be added to the 246?

I have no idea what Genisys could do here...somewhere as low as 30 and as high as 100 might all be possible. I have no clue how distribution works and what drives the Chinese to see one movie, and not the other.

Few release dates in China

Quote:
Chinese media is reporting that the next batch of imported Hollywood films has confirmed release dates.

Terminator: Genisys will try to salvage a lackluster domestic and overseas run when it opens on Sunday, August 23. SARFT is giving the reboot about 2 weeks free rein before the next Hollywood release, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation opens on Tuesday, September 8. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was the 4th highest grossing film of 2012 with $107 million. Alibaba Pictures has an investment of an unspecified amount in the sequel and is the company's first Hollywood investment.

Minions will open 5 days later on Sunday, September 13. Despicable Me 2 is currently the 8th highest-grossing animated film on the Mainland and grossed $52.2 million in 2014. Lastly, Pixels will be released on Tuesday, September 15.

It was also announced that Ant-Man is planning a Chinese release and Disney/Pixar's Inside Out has passed censorship but neither film has a confirmed release date.

The Chinese film industry is currently in the middle of its annual "blackout period" when authorities give preference to domestic films. Last week's box office receipts totaled $282 million and was the highest grossing week of all-time in China.

Terminator Salvation made 109.56m yuan, and based on the exchange rate from 2009, that would be $16m.

Monster Hunt is looking at a $50m second weekend, down only 38% from its OW. The total by Sunday night will be around $220m, passing Avatar in domestic currency.

It already did. The exchange rate has gone down the last few years.

This is the first one, so the biggest domestic gross ever. Will enter the top 3 all time the next couple of days.

Jian Bing Man is at $140m, and Monkey King has become the biggest animated film ever in China with $108m, surpassing Kung Fu Panda 2.

At this rate, it looks like Monster Hunt has a good chance of beating last summer's winner Transformers 4, another Chinese co-production, to become the No. 2 highest grossing movie in China.

Raman Hui and Michael Bay both say thanks to the blackout period.

Another $30-32m weekend for Monster Hunt for a total around $290m. Still not certain to pass TF4 yet, but another good week could do.

All the new releases failed to impress.

I hope Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation can gross $150-200 million in China.

It is nice to see a Chinese movie as the all-time highest grossing movie, but I just wish it had earned it by its own merit. I doubt very much that it would have out-grossed Age of Extinction if it came up against Rogue Nation and Pixels in its first few weeks.

You must be forgetting Furious 7's $397 million total.
