 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
Still, that's a big achievement for Pixar and Disney, all their past animation films have made shit numbers in China compared to Dreamworks and Bluesky I read that MU OD was bigger than Brave's total

Friday report MU 22.8M---biggest OD for an animated movie in 2013
Of course it is. It's one of the ONLY animated films released this year. I can't think of another. THE CROODS????? Wow. So it beat one [non-sequel, non-franchise] animated movie about a prehistoric society? Not hard. I'm not trying to take away from MU's achievement, just the way that it is relayed above ("biggest OD for an animated movie in 2013"), it's kind of hilarious.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
It's even less... $3.7m. While good (especially for a Tuesday), it's not groundbreaking. It all still depends how well it does for the rest of the week and its first month.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
For a first time release it is ok but not great specially when comparing to the re-release of Titanic.

Jack Sparrow wrote: For a first time release it is ok but not great specially when comparing to the re-release of Titanic. Are you a moron? Seriously, sometimes I really think so. It is great. A movie, 20 years old, being rereleased in a non-English language country, is making much more than most new blockbuster releases. It's not just great, it's fucking great. Comparing it to the Titanic re-release is idiotic. Titanic is on another level, and was released in China back in 1998, so it's had years and years to become beloved by the people. Jurassic Park didn't have that yet it's still making huge numbers. Any rerelease making above $10m in any market besides the USA is an amazing thing.

Updated release schedule for upcoming foreign movies:
Sep 05: Elysium Sep 12: Smurfs 2 Sep 18: Turbo Sep 27: Jobs Sep 30: Un Plan Parfait
Oct 06: The Lone Ranger Oct 17: The Wolverine
This is quite frustrating. I saw The Lone Ranger on my pps list last night and started to watch it. It was a bad copy so I turned it off, but now I see it has a release date, so a long wait is in order. But at least there's another 3 movies that I will watch in the above list.
Movies I plan to see in the cinema:
The Great Gatsby (also on pps but I will see it at the cinema) Elysium The Lone Ranger (pps) The Wolverine
During some of September, I will be in the UK, so hopefully I can catch Alpha Papa and Escape Plan while I'm there, perhaps a few others too.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
Because I read it was a fairly last-minute decision, and it is nice/cool when people can experience a film on the big screen.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
David wrote: Because I read it was a fairly last-minute decision They all are in China. And yes, you're right, it's always better to get to see it on the big screen. The thing is, how much of its audience has already seen it? I mean, China is a country that only cares about money/cost, not quality. If they can see something for free in two weeks, or pay 100RMB to see it today, they will choose the 'in two weeks' option because it's a saving. So The Great Gatsby being free AND available immediately is not leaving many punters for the theatrical release at all. A damn shame. Dirty, cheap, Chinese bastards.

Universal Pictures International’s Jurassic Park 3D grossed an estimated $7.1m from 3,300 venues in 14 territories as the running total climbed to $63.5m. The reboot ranks number two in its second week in China where a further $6.6m boosted the tally to $47.2m.

Algren, Box Office Mojo says Redemption (Hummingbird) opened in China. I am disappointed in you for not seeing it.
