Not too bad. Arnold looks like the best part of this, easily.

Bullet to the Head is out on Tuesday 9th July.

Should be able to make about $10m in China surely! I have absolutely no idea really. Just a hunch.

Updated release schedule for upcoming foreign movies:

Aug 20: Jurassic Park 3D
Aug 23: Monsters University
Aug 29: The Impossible
Aug 30: The Great Gatsby

Sep 05: Elysium
Sep 12: Smurfs 2
Sep 27: Jobs
Sep 30: Un Plan Parfait
Sep ??: The Lone Ranger
Sep ??: Turbo
Sep ??: The Wolverine

Jobs is a surprising release. I guess they figure that Chinese people all have iPhone's, so naturally they will want to see the story of the creator. LOL. This couldn't be further from the truth. Chinese love to make money and are very ambitious, but they are lazy as fuck and only want to tell people their own success stories, not hear other peoples'.

It'll probably change closer to the release, like the rest of the list. :funny:

Algren, do you have a list of Hollywood movies that are confirmed to be released in China this year or next (no matter the specific release date)? I'd appreciate it.

Nobody has that list. Movies are only decided upon by the Film, TV and Radio Bureau of China within 1 month of a films' release date. Deals are done very late. So the only confirmed movies are the ones within August and the start of September at the moment.

I mean, you can guess which ones will be coming out for the next year, but it'd just be a guess.

I am surprised with Jobs and Turbo even contending for release. Jobs might still get release date but I will be shocked if DM2 is ignored and Turbo gets a pass.

Algren given the nature of the movie (action oriented) do you think Turbo has any chance of getting released in China?

It definitely will get released.

I don't see how the nature of the movie has any bearing on its release -- it's a cartoon for Christ's sake. But you make a good observation that I overlooked...where is DM2? This is really odd, and I can only assume that it will get a release towards the end of the year.

There was an article remember? DM2 was disallowed from screening in China. There were talks about China having their own animation movies to sell or something, though I am not sure if there is a big local animation market.

Wow, really? I didn't see this article. I can't imagine why DM2 would not be allowed, but Wreck-It Ralph, Tadeo Jones, Monsters University and Turbo are.

Sometimes I just think the Chinese are retarded and do not understand the concept of making money. Seriously, IT IS POSSIBLE for local distributors AND the exporters to make money from movies - but the Chinese are greedy bastards and they feel that the split should be 80-20 in their favour or it's a 'no deal'. This is why they will never become a rich country. I have no worries about this.

Hmm, I wonder does this put $1B WW back in play after all? Seems a stretch, but I'd love it.

It's not just China left - there's also still the UK, Germany, Mexico and Japan. No idea if JP3D will play well in those territories, seeing as it fizzled in most OS markets...

JP needs only $20m for $1b. It should get it from China alone (remember Titanic 3D?) if not it would be very close. I am sure they will release it is some of the big markets just to get it past that mark.

Of course it is. It's one of the ONLY animated films released this year. I can't think of another.
