XXX: State of the Union: $45 million Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy: $23 million
The former looks fucking horrific, insanely horrible and generic beyong belief. the latter is a British only joke apparently.

HITCHIKERS and XXX2 are going to be grabbing all the limelight, i think all holdovers will suffer over 45% drops.
Exactly - xx2 steals the target demographic, so a sub-50% drop is very unlikely.

Final Predictions:
1. XXX2: The Next Level - 23.6m NEW
2. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - 22.7m NEW
3. The Interpreter - 13.8m (-40%)
4. The Amityville Horror - 7.5m (-45%)
5. Sahara - 5m (-45%)
6. A Lot Like Love - 3.9m (-49%)
7. Kung Fu Hustle - 3.9m (-42%)
8. Fever Pitch - 3.2m (-42%)
9. Robots - 2.1m (-39%)
10. Sin City - 2m (-46%)
Negative hype is going to kill xXx2. The most similar movie Ice Cube has starred in was Torque which bombed.
At least Hitchhiker has the book fans and will also attract family audiences.

Have you made a pick on XXX yet - as it has opened - especially since you have spoken so much about this movie - what is your line on this movie. Set it in stone - both Friday and the weekend if you want to cover everything.
Only thing I remember is that you said it could go lower than Libs guess.

Also Baba gave you the perfect forum weekend - expect to see a good XXX thread both before and after the numbers.
The spotlight is on you now.

25 million for the weekend. You can bet that I'll have a thread dedicated to this, as I tried my best to talk some logic into my posting colleagues, but, alas, my pleas fell on deaf ears.

Could it be possible that Brandon is wrong, considering he's having a very off year?!

We'll see on Saturday. Given all indications so far, a 20M weekend is actually a very generous proposition at this point.

My predictions for Domestic vs. International (I was trying to put in predictions this morning for the derby, and it closed down on me just before I pushed submit!! Bleh. So I missed this week. That'll be a good thing if I actually end up doing poorly this week, but if I do well, I lose a chance to raise my average).
XXX: State of the Union - $24.0 million
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - $24.0 million
The Interpreter - $14.3 million
The Amityville Horror - $7.4 million
Sahara - $5.2 million
A Lot Like Love - $4.4 million
Kung Fu Hustle - $3.9 million
Fever Pitch - $3.4 million
Robots - $2.2 million
Sin City - $2.1 million
PEACE, Mike

I really want to lower my XXX prediction. It's too late now. Zingy, you practically made me make it close to a $30M opener. Heh.
I now think it might struggle to $25M.

If it makes $10 million today, then it should make around $26-28 million for the weekend, so you won't be too far off.
I still think this will do over $30 million, but we'll see.

How do you know it will make $10M today, though? Based on all the Yahoo reviews, around $8-9M seems more likely. Also, I doubt its weekend multiplier will be above 2.5 or 2.6.

After thinking bout it I think XXX2 will be number one becuase:
a) big opening day
b) higher theater count

damn you!
I knew I should have kept my XXX prediction to myself
 And I there was not hatred/bias behind my prediction. I don't care about it either way, not anticipating, I think there's been worse movies out there (probably). Plus, I like Ice Cube 1000X more than Vin Diesel (that doesn't say anything,r eally, but...)
