Finally people are coming around. As I said, it will make less than 200 million. My reasons have always been the same like Magnus pointed out. Pure and simple. If Batman Begins had to struggle to get past 200 million, why would Superman (the less popular franchise when compared to Batman) make more when it doesnt have the type of stellar cast like Batman and script. I still look forward to the movie and I didnt think the trailer is as bad as everyone made it out to be
Sure the same excuse has been said that Batman had to overcome the bad stigma of Batman & Robin but Superman Returns has many obstacles. One of which is casting a complete unknown in the role and people are still linking Christopher Reeves to Superman

If SR had actual excitement in the trailer, like Superman fighting people and zapping people with laser-eyes in the air, it could do much better. It was more serious than BB's. Good for Batman, not good for Superman. Superman is supposed to be fun, which is exactly where Spiderman makes its money. They went for the wrong appeal if they follow up with this.

Man, no kidding about the trailer having almost silent reaction when played in front of HP while Narnia, Happy Feet, and King Kong got alot of people talking in the theater. I really think all these crappy Superman tv shows really hurt the potential for the movie. It seems very much to me that they are restarting the movie which is very unneccessary. You may say that Batman had a restart but at least in Batman Begins it tells the origins of Bruce Wayne and used different villians which the first Batman movie mainly concentrated on the Joker. How different is Superman Returns is going to be from 1978's Superman. Its basically the same premise with the same villian

I see it having a relatively low opening (well, compared to X-Men or Spider-Man, as saying $64 million is a low opening is ridiculous), probably a notch above Batman Begins had it opened on a Friday--that would be about $64 million.
Total is entirely dependent on quality.

If I have made predictions earlier in this thread, I changed them.
Opening Weekend: $65 million
Total: $215 million
I doubt this will do better than Superman 2 adjusted.

1. Christopher REEVE was also an unknown.
2. It's spelled REEVE, not REEVES.

Nothing wrong with it. It's your prediction.
I just think it's 100% impossible.

Not quite sure yet, but the total is definitely under $200 million unless the trailer just blows people away.

BJ and Rev: I want this one to do well.
I have a tough time when I compare Reeve's avatar to this new superman. Not very impressive. Maybe Singer can work some magic with the movie.

This is the only movie i'm fanboy hyped about for '06. On the level of Reloaded and Phantom Menace.

I see absolutely no logical reason why this film will be one of the six films of all-time to break the $400 million milestone. Especially when films with massive hype like Sith can't do it, why in God's name can Superman?
No, really. I'd like to hear an explanation, and not "because it's Superman!"
