Still sticking to what I predicted in the monthly game - 111m. Best case scenario if its a rave is Zwackerm prediction above. Presales are still at dismal levels. Just over half of thor , under 60% of wakanda and about 3/4th of Ant 3.Ant 3 final week was absolutely horrible and so I expect Guardians to catch up. But Wakanda and Thor did finish strong and so not sure how much it will catch up.

I'm still gonna go with around $131m even if presales are dismal. Seems like it'll be well received.

Just as I expected. I am not seeing a A cinemascore as well. Movie is lot more darker than what the trailer has shown which is generally filled with gags. Anyway I will know for sure as I am seeing it later this evening. Still Gunn has delivered a good movie.

Strange that a more serious film wouldn’t be appreciated after the reception of recent MCU films not being serious enough.

Its still filled with gags. I guess the contrasting tone make it jarring for top critics.

A hot dog is meat and other stuff in between breed. It's a sandwich.

I've got Guardians at $135M. A little below part 2 but nothing as disasterous as the presales indicate.

I can see this. Love and Thunder got flack for being 95% a goofy movie while the remaining 5% had one of the characters dying from cancer. I didn't mind, but I could see it being offputting to someone who just wants to watch a fun movie for two hours.

A hot dog is a submarine sandwich in its classic form.

80% and 7.2 average so far... that's fine.

Hype does feel muted though. I think big hype for a MCU film won't happen for awhile.

Reviews are more divisive than meh it seems. The positive reviews are very positive but the negative reviews are very negative

Having seen the movie I think fans will like it. That said WOM is not a factor when its comes OW except good Sunday hold. Not sure these 25 early screening are sufficient to turn it around. Should have gone Batman/Maverick route and did 2 days of early Imax/PLF previews.

Still expecting better than DS2 or Thor legs. At least should do as well as Wakanda especially if OW is soft.

The Love Again move is fascinating, as it'll be the first major wide release to open up against a Marvel movie since Midsommar opening against Far from Home, which was at least a holiday week. I doubt it'll make much money, but it's a solid counter-programming move, and it should have a good hold in its second weekend with Mothers Day.

25m is possible as Mario is not that much reliant on PLF/Imax. Look at holds when Ant 3 opened. Both Avatar and Puss had crazy strong holds. Considering Guardians is opening around Ant 3 I dont see a movie which is a juggernaut like Mario will drop that hard.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - $105M

MCU is in freefall. Also Chris Pratt never turned out to be a bona fide movie star. Now he is out of franchises.

I actually like Guardians 3 a lot despite the flaws. Gunn did his job for sure.

That said its no way coming close to 140m at this point. Presales are still below Ant 3 though the pace is better. 140m is almost Thor OW. its not even in the same ballpark as Thor for Thur/Fri/Sat presales.

The superhero adventure is hoping to bring in $120 million in its opening weekend, falling in between the starts of 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” ($94 million) and 2017’s sequel ($146 million). There’s a chance that “Vol. 3” could fall short of those projections and land closer to a less-spectacular $110 million to $118 million, according to independent tracking services.

Filmmaker James Gunn’s Marvel Studios swan song, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is blasting off this weekend, the de facto start of the summer box office, with an eye at $250M worldwide. Of that $110M is coming from domestic, and $140M from overseas.
