+27% from last Friday. It's almost certainly increasing from last weekend overall, and has an outside shot of topping the original's third weekend ($68.5M).

What are the biggest weekend grosses of all time that a movie increased from the following weekend? The only one over $40M I can think would be Shrek going from its first weekend ($42,347,760) to second weekend ($42,481,425).

Avatar 2's 3rd weekend could come in around 50% of its OW

RO's 3rd weekend was 31%

That's probably my last RO comp since these are following very different trajectories....except the final DOM numbers might be close.

Not at all. I see Avatar 2 besting Avatar 1‘s domestically

That would be awesome.

TFA did $34.394M in its 3rd Friday. Not far off from TWOW. Just sayin...

Otto did decent. I think it will do well when it opens wide as seems like a harmless Tom Hanks feel good movie which resonates with audiences.

Nice to see The Menu continue to pull in audiences. The Whale has been holding well for the week and my local theaters have had it fairly packed for most of the week. Seems to be resonating and benefiting from buzz and wom. Could be a leggy run.

Babylon still hasn't passed $10M? Probably will be Pitt's worst performing film since he broke out?

Dance hasn't held very well at all compared to other films. Seems like it will dropoff quickly after the holidays.

Nice to see WF doing so well over the holidays and staying in the top 3 in weekend 8. A $450M total would be a nice round number for it to finish at.

Great for Puss In Boots. It's nearly double its opening day 9 days ago and isn't that far off from its best days of its run, which it could still see.

Amazing bump for Avatar and recovery from last weekend. All eyes are on weekend 4 to see where this ends up.

Avatar had no drop from last weekend; 4th biggest 3rd weekend ever. And apparantly China's performance is doing great now so $2 billion seems likely.

Still hoping TGM takes the domestic crown, but it's looking increasingly close now.

This should be enough to aim for surpassing Maverick's domestic and surpassing Titanic's worldwide. Surpassing Rogue One's domestic and No Way Home's worldwide are locked.

Call me blind, but I still don't see it reaching $720 million. It ain't going to be making $20m weekdays anymore. It will be a slow crawl to wherever it finishes now. It isn't going to rack up another $280 million so easily.

 Avatar 2 won't even reach Titanic with $659m, even $600m is not certain yet.

Great numbers though would have been great to see Puss above $20M 3day based on its mid weeks.

The 4th weekend for Avatar is the gamechanger for its domestic total. Avatar (2009) managed $30M+ weekends for all 4 weeks of Jan. 2010. The storm effect and holidays as well as only 1 $20M+ opener (Book of Eli) until weekend 8 (Feb 5-7 2010) still leave me unsure of how it holds but I have a hard time seeing it pull $30M+ weekends for 4 more weeks and expect steeper drops comparatively.

So glad we got New Year's week numbers to purge the memory of Christmas weak numbers.

Except for Dance and Bablyon. Those went wrong.

Babylon is a bigger bomb obviously, but I Wanna Dance With Somebody is missing expectations by a wider margin. It could close with less than Rocketman's OW

MONDAY AM UPDATE: Sunday came in stronger for Avatar: The Way of Water than Disney anticipated, grossing a great $24.4M to what was thought to be $21M. The third weekend of the James Cameron title rises to $68.4M with a 4-day of $86.3M. By the end of today, it’s expected that Avatar 2 will pass the $440.9M 18-day total of Rogue One with $444.4M.

What tremendous staying power Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is having. It's acting like a children's movie with its drops over Christmas and New Years.

It's still only the 21st leggiest Marvel film, having recently passed the multipliers of Thor 2, Avengers Age of Ultron and Endgame. It will likely finish as the 19th leggiest Marvel film, behind Thor Ragnarok and beat the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 by the end.

Not as bad as other recent Marvel multipliers (about 2.48) but nothing to write home about

If it held like SMNWH, it would get to 649m dom. Seems like a fair benchmark until president's day since its the only big budget film till Ant-Man, though that film may keep it from quite matching Spider Man's multiple. However, I think 600m should be doable.

Avatar 2 will get close to $680-$700m IMO. The legs through January are looking to be strong with the minimal competition.
