Mmm honestly it has more of a chance to do below 50m opening.

I would love for this to happen but don't think Sonic quite reached the Frozen / Finding Nemo level of pop culture impact, and those two sequels did about $130-135M.

There is a precedent though with Secret Life of Pets doing $104M but that rode DM's coattails a bit.

I could see a Lorax/Zootopia type OW of $75M. With the lack of family films could spike that $10-15M for $85M even.

I won't rule this out.
I've been underestimated Sonic 2 years ago and didn't expect much from the sequel at first. But marketing feels great and 100m might just a bit too much, but I think this can get really close, and make over 250m total.

reviews won't matter for the opening weekend on this one. Not at all! Families will be flocking to this.

I'm excited for the movie and to see how it performs. Should be a good benchmark post Omicron.

Presales dont look anywhere in a ballpark for a 100m opening. Would be good to match the 1st one at this point.

I'm thinking more like $60-$70m - which would be amazing.

There's a big audience right now wanting to see movies and first family movie in 4 months. So much up in the air for Sonic but tracking in low 50s already is promising. There will be a lot of walk ups of people wanting to see something with their family.

I would not be shocked if Sonic did $35 M - $110M, it's one of the hardest to predict of the year since so many macro factors at play here.

Reviews are not bad, i think it will will have a shot at 200m total if it opens to atleast 70m.

Probably 80-90ish imo. 100 is not crazy crazypants on the high side but it looks pretty unlikely.

Early access screenings were $1.25m, which is pretty impressive. I'd be shocked if it only matched tracking.

Still don't understand why this got a sequel but not Pokemon. All they have to do is do Ash, Misty and Brook.

walkups are looking very strong and PS for tomorrow is looking great. I am thinking 7-8m previews including early shows and true friday of atleast low 20s which should be suffice for 75m+ OW. While this club will most probably fail its still crazy strong performance. BO is truly back if something other than a SH movie can breakout so big.

Previews like that should be good for 80m, come on!

Now we have the industry recovering from its biggest crisis since the switch from silent to talking films and the biggest movie stars beating other people up in award shows. I miss the bad CGI days.

Paramount was smart to listen and do the CGI updates. They have a franchise that was the #3 movie of 2020, and very well may have its sequel also keep the franchise going strong. I read somewhere that the original Sonic is the highest grossing video game adaption of all time?

As big as Sonic is I feel it may just be a taste of what a good Super Mario movie will do this Dec.
