I think it's my longest article yet.

Any comments?

It was good man, though I do think you're terribly underestimating Unleashed's legs, you've been against that movie from the start. I just really think that the WOM is the strongest that any Jet Li film has ever had in the states, and I'd sooner compare it to Kiss of the Dragon. Although that did open in the summer, it's 13/36 run wasn't too affected by the summer weekdays, as it had an R rating and catered heavily to older audiences, which probably makes it closer to 13/33. One film that this actually strikes me as similar to is Hostage. It opened in the same amount of theaters and with a similarly thin amount of marketing, but WOM was excellent thanks to it being more dramatic and emotional yet sporting great action scenes the trailers managed to not give away. It also opened against what was being predicted to be an absolutely gigantic franchise film, and even with a tremendous 36 million from the same audience it held well and ended up having some of the best legs of the year. Unleashed may not have quite as old an audience, but before you assume it'll lose screens by Memorial Day remember that it has only has three movies opening to deal with, and even with multiple screens there are MANY other late spring leftovers making considerably worse PTAs like House of Wax, xXx: State of the Union, Kingdom of Heaven, Hitchhiker's Guide, and all the other pre-May movies to sweep out, and I don't see why they'd keep any of those over Unleashed. If anything, it seems like it would be the first choice for guys to choose if Star Wars sells out, and could get some slight overflow business. Comingsoon.net's The Weekend Warrior thinks so, and is predicting a 46% drop to 5.9 million. Honestly, a 3.0+ multiplier wouldn't surprise me, a number of underpredicted guy movies have been vastly underpredicted on here both opening weekned and then total by posters trying to spin it, like Sahara and Hostage, yet those two will have some of the best legs of the year. Unleashed probably won't have that great of legs, but I think the minimum is 2.4-2.5.

Anyways, besides that, it was good overall, though I'd suggest listing movies total grosses at that point as well moreso, and maybe say what movies fell out of the top ten and where they're headed. :)

I dunno moviedude ... star wars is going to put a huge crunch on Unleashed's numbers. I think it will be really frontloaded. Only Monster in law should escape its wrath.

I was thinking a 55-60% drop originally, but comingsoon.net's Weekend Warrior convinced me. It really is the only other movie out there besides Star Wars that has any action in it, and I think it's definitely the second choice for guys. Were it not for Star Wars opening, I'd say the drop would be between Sahara's 27.2% and Hostage's 41.4%. But even with it, I think it'll hurt, but also help it in the overselling aspect too, which you KNOW it'll do. Unleashed's Thursday numbers should tell the tale though, if it drops over 25% that day forget I said anything.

Nice wrapup! Glad to see you have a real name being used. It looks much more credible! =D>

MovieDude, your precious Unleashed will be dying a quick death at the box office. Not it's fault, but it won't be able to survive. Monster-in-Law and Crash are the only two that I see as survivors with the current releases.

Well keep in mind I haven't even seen the film yet, so I'm not just saying this because I loved the movie. ;)

I do expect Unleashed to drop over 25% on Thursday, since Black Mask dropped 41.43% the day TPM opened. It should still bounce back on Friday to avoid a 60% weekend drop. Black Mask increased 78% the next day, and that was a Thursday.

Guys. Women like star wars too.
Why is it so many men have like. No clue over women? "Oh yeah all chicks ever will still be seeing Monster In Law despite its poisonously bad word of mouth and lack of any real buzz for it left; not like any girl will go see Sith or anything."

Put it this way, 1/4 of Sith's gross this weekend could work out around $25m, so even if theres an unfeasibly low percentage of women to men seeing Sith, its STILL going to draw masive amounts of buisness away from other female films. Blockbusters like these suck in all quadrants.
