on the Biggest Second Weekend Drops? It opened as a wide release. Was it because in its second weekend the film wasn't playing wide or was it because it was a re-release. I think it should be on the list, but why isn't it? If it was on the list it would have 5th worst drop ever in the second weekend.

Because, technically, it's not the second weekend. It's like an extra weekend. It doesn't count as it's own movie.

Yeeeeeeeah, but it's still the same movie. Just shorter. That's not a different movie.

When Scarface was re-released in 2003, that wasn't a new movie. It was the same movie.

They should still count this on the chart. Re-releases are another run. Not the original run.

Why would they count the same movie as a different run?

MIB2 was re-released two-three months after release, and that didn't count as a seperate movie.

Plus, The Passion Recut dropped -667 theaters the second weekend. It's not a regular movie that has to be kept in theaters for atleast two weekends.

It lost 667 theaters its second weekend because it was a disaster in its first weekend. It had a terrible PTA compared to the first release.

Yeah, because it was supposed to get a $27,000 PTA in it's re-release, right?

C'mon, Spider-Man. Even huge bombs require to be kept in theaters for two weekends. The Passion Recut wasn't a seperate movie, so it didn't apply to that rule. Because it's not a seperate movie (just a seperate release), it's not counted.

It's first weekend PTA was $233. People were expecting about $3-5m for a $3,000-$5,000 PTA. Had it had that PTA it would have held onto its theaters. It dropped theaters cause it did TERRIBLE.

...and the fact that the PTA was so relates to it's second weekend drop because..?

The fact of the matter is that it's not a different movie. Period.

I meant the reason it dropped 667 theaters in week 2 was because it did awful during its first weekend. It did worse than State Property 2. That is why it lost theaters, not because the theaters didn't have to keep it for 2 weeks.

LOL

I'm actually gonna have to agree slightly with Spider-Man.

They cut the movie, so, technically (since everyone is speaking "technically") it's not the same movie.

But I also wouldn't put it on the biggest drops list because it would seem pointless, it wasn't an original release or anything. So, techniclly, it should go in the list, but I wouldn't put it, it would just seem pointless. And safe to say, I doubt they'll be re-releasing it anymore on a yearly basis.

There's no way this should ever be on that list. Just for the simple reason that it was allowed to shed that many theaters in its second weekend. If you wanna get into technicalities, you could say that if a movie breaks at a theater and they have to cut 5 seconds out that should be considered a totally different movie and they should report the grosses seperately!

zingaling is right, it is the "same" movie, the total of the recut i think is added to the total of the original similarly to SW movies, ET and the LOTR movies.
