Odyssey does not need any Barbenheimer effect. it has great curiosity surrounding it. On its OW let us wait until close to release to see how big the hype is. I am at this point expecting 100m+ OW but that is hope more than anything.

King Kong 2005 clone, this is going to be enormously over predicted.

Apparently IMAX shows are already selling out a year in advance. Some tickets are being resold for as much as $400 a ticket. IMAX is saying it sold more than 1.5 mil for its opening weekend already.

I think it can do 400m domestic. Odyssey is lot easier sell than a 3 hr drama than Oppy was. This has everything. Spectacle, action and its an epic journey with a climax that will end on a high. So Kong adjusted is not its ceiling. But let us wait until its near release to judge its potential. I am expecting spectacular presales for it for sure. Biggest for a not a sequel for sure.

Some thought it challenge Titanic, not kidding. I expect this to be another wildly, wildly over predicted film. People at Box Office Theory think $200m opening, $600m domestic total etc etc. Inflated Kong's $380m domestic/ $1b is global total sound very accurate for this, which is still gigantic hit Barrabás wrote: publicenemy#1 wrote: Mmm ya this will not peform like Kong 2005 Kong 05 adjusts to roughly $380M. This is more classic big picture blockbuster.

Jackson had no proven track record outside of LOTR lol, what a bad comparison.

Tho can certainly make $350-450m but yes nothing is guaranteed. Im always hesitant to get optimistic on historical epics after i predicted $300m+ for Troy.

 Re: Nolan’s The Odyssey - July 17, 2026
it does not matter. PJ was just an indie director from Kiwi land until he did LOTR. Of course hype around KK was huge and it was the biggie for holidays in 2005(I think I saw it in a crowded theater during OW). But it was too long and boring and did not have good legs despite holidays.
Nolan has delivered multiple hits outside Bats and so in no scenario we compare him to PJ.
