Re: Jurassic World Rebirth weekend thread
Dominion was abysmal. Another sequel with Pratt and the gang would have tanked. Great idea by Universal to reboot the entire cast with fresh faces. Another billion hit on their hands.

Leftists are fickle as fuck, though. She is a woman, so I could see them praising the film because of her being the lead....then a clip comes out of her praising Woody Allen, lol.

So we're just gonna pretend like she didn't open Lucy to $44M+ when dozens of other similiar films have struggled to hit half of that? I'd like to see the Rightists find a better example of starpower in recent box office history.

And like why even bring that up out of nowhere? Nobody was saying it. Literally no one. Typical that the sensitive souls of rightists have to invent imaginary people so that they can be properly offended whilst they complainng about leftists doing the exact same thing.

Re: Jurassic World Rebirth weekend thread
Dude that was 12 years ago. Stallone was not as big a draw in 1997 with Cop Land as he was in 1985 with Rocky IV. Time matters. If she was such a big draw she wouldn't need to rely on ensemble/franchise fare. And let's not forget that just three months prior she couldn't even get Under the Skin to $3 million! Lucy could have starred any relatively hot female and it would have done well. Ghost in the Shell, just three years later, barely reached $40 million. Lucy is the exception here. Her filmography is filled more showing her as not a draw than the opposite.

As for Under The Skin, that couldn't have been less mainstream. I think it's a masterpiece, but it's one of the artsiest films I've seen. No star was going to make that a hit. It did rent really well at the video store I was working at, though. People HATED it. Lucy did well because Scarlett was a draw from Marvel. Uncharted did as well as it did because Tom Holland was coming off Spider-Man. In those cases, timing was everything. I don't think there are any real consistent draws anymore. That used to be enough to get people in the seats, but now it's about the product. If it doesn't look appealing, people aren't going to go see it. Scarlett is adding another hit to her belt with Jurassic World, but I doubt anyone thinks it's a hit due to her or anyone in the cast. I think changing the cast up in general is part of the appeal, but it could have been any recognizable faces and it still would have done well. The biggest draw is being a big, dumb summer movie with dinosaurs and the "Jurassic" name.

ScarJo is not a draw however will still go down as an icon with the mix of big movies/indies and holding her own in both lead and supporting.
