I guess it makes sense, the original adjusting to 300 million+, another cute creature like Stitch.

We were so close to being done with these but now the combo of Stitch and Dragon will keep them going for another ten years and beyond. Rachel Zeggler's reputation died for nothing.

They'll go forever. The next generation will have the Pixar dam break, Frozen, Encanto, etc. and eventually a Shrek.

I think the only lesson Disney learned is "DONT CHANGE ANYTHING." People want the shit the exact same as its always been and don't want the characters to look different from how they remember. If Snow White was going into production today they'd get the whitest girl they could find and real little people. Maybe even recast Charlize as the Evil Queen for some multiverse potential.

Plus even if Little Mermaid with white redhead makes slightly less, it probably makes it back and more internationally.
I think Wicked is an example where racial casting worked and got the internet cheering for it more, but people weren't attached to the original source material in the same way as a movie.

We are box office enthusiasts of the 2000s era. We still think a $100m opening is mother of god. But with 20+ years inflation, a $100m opening is the least a HTTYD live-action remake should open to. $200m is the new mother of god. When Lilo opens to $150m, that will be like when Matrix Reloaded did $91m. The next $200m opener will be akin to Spider-Man's $114m.
